In November the CEO of American Airlines joint venture partner Qantas announced they planned to require vaccination in order to fly. U.S. airlines have had internal discussions about following suit. However I do not see how American Airlines could require passengers but not crew to have been vaccinated in order to travel.

How American Airlines Is Keeping Government Payroll Support For Itself, Not Giving It To Employees

The government’s $900 billion Covid relief bill passed at the end of December included $15 billion to airlines, on top of the $50 billion provisioned to U.S. airlines as part of the original CARES Act.

This was pitched as payroll support, meant to cover the cost of the less than 40,000 people who were furloughed or laid off from U.S. carriers. In exchange for the money airlines have to bring these people back onto payroll through March 31, and pay them retroactively to December 1, 2020. American Airlines found a way not to do that with many of the employees they’ve laid off, however.

American Airlines Confronts Passenger At The Airport, Sends Them $1000 Bill For Ticketing Abuses

American Airlines confronted a reader over throwaway ticketing when he arrived at the airport. He was told that he had better fly all of the segments in his itinerary that day, and that American would be watching.

Instead, the reader got off of his flight to Philadelphia and went home, never taking the last flight on his reservation. As promised, American flagged him, suspended his account – and demanded restitution for past instances of throwaway ticketing.
