American Airlines First Class: What’s For Dinner?

Jan 12 2018

In September 2014 American and legacy US Airways harmonized their catering — and the results were not good. American took the overwhelming feedback of customers — and from embarrassed crew — to heart and introduced better meals in August 2015.

American ostensibly introduces all new meal service each year. We got a new set of meals in November 2016, and last month they began to rotate new dishes in as they overhaul the domestic first class menu.

American Airlines Flight Attendants Will Start Offering Onboard Compensation This Month

Jan 11 2018

The idea of compensating customers onboard is hardly new. You can contact customer relations after a flight, you can even get a proactive email from an airline after a flight, but the immediacy of onboard compensation can quell problems while you’re still stuck in a metal tube and frustrated.

American Airlines is rolling out this capability next month, loading iSolve software onto flight attendant tablets.

Rapper’s Manager Charged for Threatening to Off Flight Attendant’s Head, Claims Racism

Jan 10 2018

Rapper Rich the Kid touched down on an American Airlines flight at LAX on Tuesday and got up to use the lavatory while the plane taxied to the gate. A flight attendant told him to sit down. His road manager got into an argument with the flight attendant threatening to cut their head off.

That’s what it takes for American Airlines to deny charges of racial discrimination, it seems.

Gate Gourmet Will Again Cater American Airlines at LAX Despite Listeria Scare

Jan 05 2018

siTwo months ago American Airlines stopped using Gate Gourmet for catering at LAX when listeria was found at their facility.

Now American Airlines is bringing Gate Gourmet back for most domestic flights. My sense is that going cold turkey (sandwiches, hah) on Gate Gourmet was probably an overreaction in the first place. There weren’t any reports of sickness.

New Era: American Gives Out $250,000 Denied Boarding Compensation on a Single Flight?

Jan 04 2018

In the aftermath of the David Dao dragging incident in April, several airlines revamped their policies around paying denied boarding compensation. In September Delta paid out $4000 in travel credit to a woman flying to South Bend, Indiana for a Georgia Bulldogs – Notre Dame game. She still made it in the night before the game.

On December 19th American Airlines flight AA150 from Chicago O’Hare to Paris went mechanical just prior to boarding. Instead of cancelling or delaying the flight to the next day, they swapped out the planned Boeing 787-9 with 285 seats for a Boeing 787-8 which has just 226 seats.

Southwest is giving every employee $1000, giving an additional $5 million to charity and exercising options for 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 (“15 firm orders in 2019 and 25 firm orders in 2020”). They’re crediting the tax reform bill for the moves.

American Airlines is also giving each employee $1000. It’ll cost American Airlines about $130 million or almost twice what it will cost Southwest because of American’s size. American also credits the tax reform bill.

Credit cards in pocket
Aug 17 2014

The American AAdvantage online shopping portal is offering 1000 bonus miles for spending $200 or more, cumulatively on purchases (all of your purchases can add up to $200 – it doesn’t have to be for a single item), through August 25. No registration required. In other words, make your online purchases by starting at the AAdvantage online mall and clicking on the retailers you’ll buy from at their site and you’ll pick up an extra 1000 miles on top of the miles you’d normally earn for doing so. The AAdvantage portal is run by Cartera commerce. I interviewed their President earlier this year, and tried to shed some light on how these online shopping portals – which offer you a rebate for the shopping you’ll do anyway – work. Meanwhile, the Hawaiian Airlines shopping portal…
