American Airlines Tells Employees Their Plans For Boeing 777-200s

To the extent that American keeps the 777-200s over the long-term they may retrofit the interiors of these aircraft. There’s some chance that United’s big order for 100 firm and up to 200 widebody aircraft from Boeing could take delivery slots that leads to American keeping its 777-200s longer. There’s less opportunity for further replacement.

And already American is talking about keeping (at least some of) its Boeing 777-200s over the long term. At the same time, I’d expect some of the fleet to be retired and those aircraft never to be reconfigured.

Chilling Air Traffic Control Audio As Boeing 777 Won’t Respond To Controls While Landing In Paris

Air France flight 11 from New York JFK to Paris had alarm sounds in the cockpit and one of the pilots called out “Stop! Stop!” several times on Tuesday morning as it descended through 1500 feet on final approach.

The 17 year old Boeing 777-300 reportedly did not respond to commands. The crew managed to execute a go around as it hit 1150 feet, after veering significantly to the left.

Thanks To Russia Hack, American Airlines May Start Flying Widebodies Full Of Jet Fuel Into Charlotte

American is working through whether it’s feasible to operate large widebody aircraft – Boeing 777s – from other hubs on their flights to Charlotte. They’d gas up the 777s, which can fly to Asia, with full tanks of fuel in places like Dallas. Then they’d siphon out the gas for flights that need to depart from Charlotte.

What Delta’s CEO Told Employees About Retiring Their Boeing 777s (And Refunding $1.2 Billion In Tickets)

More than 650 of Delta’s planes are parked, but in another sign that airlines believe their future is going to be smaller than their past – at least for the foreseeable future – the airline has decided to retire its fleet of 18 Boeing 777s.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian sent a memo to the airline’s employees about the decision, and the internal document was shared with me by a source.
