New American Airlines Top Tier Elite Benefit: Priority Gate Check Bag Delivery on Regional Jets

Customers flying first class on regional jets have traditionally been given a ‘yellow tag’ for their carry on. The purpose is so that those bags get priority.

Starting November 11th these yellow tags will become an Executive Platinum and ConciergeKey benefit. Instead of just being available to first class passengers (on regional jets with first class), they’ll also be a top tier elite benefit when those customers are flying coach.

Airlines Can’t Ban Carry On Bags on Flights to Europe

United proudly is the only major airline that has kept the ban on carry on bags for basic economy customers. In fact they’re more punitive than that, even. A basic economy customer who isn’t checking a bag isn’t allowed to check-in online or via app. They have to show up at the airport early in order to stand in line to check in, so an agent can personally verify they don’t have a carry on.

Airlines have rolled out basic economy fares between the US and Europe but the carry on bag restriction didn’t take hold for transatlantic travel. Now it seems like it might not be able to even if airlines tried.

American Will Soon Stop Making You Gate Check Your Carry On Bags

In addition to faster internet American’s 737s and A321s are also getting bigger overhead bins. As long as each passenger only brings their allowable carry on bags and stows their personal item under the seat there should be no need to check a bag.

A change to the computer display at each gate rolled out December 11 to let agents know when the plane has this new interior and will have enough bin space for all passengers.
