New Recursive Merchant Funded Offer From Chase And Lyft

We’ve seen American Express load up on merchant-funded offers to show substantial cash value to cardmembers, while raising annual fees. We’ve seen Chase do the same – think DoorDash and Lyft right before the pandemic, while announcing a fee increase on the Sapphire Reserve card.

These offers can be hard to make last. Eventually the brand reaches as many customers as they are likely to reach, and no longer benefits from offering continued discounts. So issuers need a funnel of new offers to replace the ones they lose.

Marriott Revamps Premium Credit Card, Launches Two New Mid-Tier Cards

Marriott is introducing two new mid-tier cards – Marriott Bonvoy Bevy American Express® Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful™ Card from Chas – and the premium Marriott Bonvoy BrilliantTM American Express® Card is getting a new slate of benefits.

I don’t quite see the argument for the mid-tier cards, but the premium card product is going to appeal to a lot of customers that stay with Marriott but don’t earn Platinum status or above on their own.

New Chase Sapphire Lounge Coming To Washington Dulles

The lounge will be 5200 square feet on the A concourse. The A concourse is also home to the Air France and Virgin Atlantic lounges, though all concourses are connected airside and the A concourse connected to the B side with the Lufthansa, Turkish, and British Airways lounges.

It will include a 1,000 square foot bar/lounge, over 900 square foot dining room, 1,400 square-foot work area, family room, prayer room and kitchen. It will be two levels, seating 74 on the main level of the terminal and 44 upstairs.

Chase Launching New Travel Portal This Year, To Become Third Largest Travel Agency

This spring Chase revealed that they would launch ChaseTravel.com this year. They are still on track and fleshing out more detail about what it will look like.

They’ve expected the product to generate $10 billion of sales in 2023 and $15 billion by 2025, making it the third largest travel agency behind Expedia and Booking.com. Already Chase generates 25% of total leisure travel spend on its cards.

British Airways Companion Award Voucher Can Now Be Used For 50% Off Solo Traveler Redemptions

British Airways “Travel Together” vouchers can be earned using the airline’s co-brand credit cards. They let a companion travel for no additional miles when redeeming points. The first passenger pays normal miles, taxes and surcharges while the second passenger is charged taxes and surcharges but no miles.

They can now be used for a solo traveler to save 50% off the miles for an award.
