American Airlines Stranded Students in Oklahoma City, Delta Brought in a Plane to Rescue Them
Flight cancellations happen and are unfortunate. The story here is Delta subtweeting American by taking care of the another airline’s passengers, outside of the interline arrangement that lets one airline put their distressed passengers on the other carrier.
American Airlines Refuses to Lend Part to Air Italy, Forces 35 Hour Delay For Spite
This past Saturday, Air Italy’s flight IG938 from San Francisco to Milan went mechanical. American Airlines had the part Air Italy needed, but they wouldn’t sell it. The scheduled 7:10 p.m. flight didn’t actually depart until early Monday morning,
American says they needed the part themselves, and an airline has to be “an approved carrier and have a partnership with us to borrow parts, and we don’t have a partnership with Air Italy.” In other words precisely because American is in a spat with Air Italy they won’t list the airline as an approved partner, and won’t lend parts.

Brazilian President Takes to YouTube Threatening to Veto Free Baggage Allowance
In December Brazil advanced a rule to eliminate foreign ownership restrictions on airlines operating inside the country. There had been a 20% cap, and currently Delta owns 9.4% of Gol, Qatar 10% of LATAM, and United 8% of Azul — three airlines that control 92% of the Brazilian market.
The rule was temporary, requiring legislative action followed by the President’s signature. The President has one problem with the bill, and he announced it on YouTube.
Inside Delta’s Brand New Tumi Business Class Amenity Kits (Plus Something for Coach Too!)
Delta has introduced new Tumi amenity kits, and the business class kits contain Le Labo products. Perhaps most notably all long haul passengers flying Delta receive an amenity kit, including coach passengers, although the separate kits for coach and Comfort+ extra legroom seats aren’t branded… but are still creative.
Delta Has a New Hub City: Boston
The last major airline to add a hub was Delta — at Seattle — in 2014. Now Delta, which has been building its presence in Boston and taking on JetBlue there, has declared that city to be a hub. Although with 150 peak day departures I see Boston more as a ‘hublet’.
If Flight Attendant is Such a Hard Job to Get, Why Don’t Airlines Hire Better Applicants?

Delta Trapped Flight Attendants on a Plane to Avoid Cancelling a Flight
Delta is known for their operational reliability. But the very true saying goes ‘you get what you measure’. Since Delta doesn’t want to cancel flights they will do take extreme steps to fudge the numbers. Sometimes instead of ‘cancelling’ a flight they’ll just ‘delay’ it a day.
On May 12, it seems, an employee in operations took the edict not to cancel flights too far. The Toronto flight faced a maintenance delay, and crew at the end of their duty delay. Flight attendants were reaching the point where they would have to volunteer to keep working or the flight wouldn’t leave.
Getting the Most Out of Delta Miles
Right now there are better Delta credit card bonus offers than we’ve ever seen, and it’s important to put them in context — and work through the best way to use these miles. Reader John challenges me to lay out the positives of SkyMiles as well.
