A woman was removed from the American Airlines morning flight from New York JFK to London Heathrow this past Saturday after an altercation over her baby’s collapsible stroller. She says that a flight attendant, who objected to the stroller going in the overhead bin above her seat, assaulted her and sent her mother to the hospital.
United Airlines says “good leads the way”. Yet at the other end of the spectrum is what one woman says happened to her on United Airlines flight 2084 from Denver to Jacksonville, Florida on Tuesday. Amber Rewis shares that a crewmember took a lunchbox out of the overhead bin – it contained frozen breast milk she was carrying for her child – and asked the cabin, “what the hell is this?”
An American Airlines passenger, sitting in the bulkhead row of economy, complained that another passenger was storing their luggage in ‘his’ overhead bin. He’s already seated, and has more luggage than he is allowed, and he doesn’t want anyone else adding to the bags above his row.
People forget that when they are on a plane they’re in public, and they do things they would normally only do when no one else is around. They clip their nails, fight with their spouse, and snort coke. And they reveal secret lobbying plans to “jam” bills through the California legislature when nobody is looking.
A TikTok video shows a Southwest Airlines flight where a passenger is ordering around a flight attendant, first saying she needs her son seated by her, then that the crewmember needs to store her bag for her, and also that she needed help getting her seatbelt belted.
The passenger complains, “somebody’s using God’s name in vain behind me.” As the flight attendant helped the passenger with her seatbelt, it appears that the passenger’s phone fell. The flight attendant picked it up off of the ground for her, and the woman said “Thank you that hit my foot.”
Southwest Airlines flight 872 from Dallas Love Field to Kansas City Friday morning made an unscheduled stop in Wichita today in order to drop off a flight attendant. Passengers weren’t told this was happening until just before boarding.
A passenger on board shares that the “17-year veteran pilot apologize[d]” to everyone on board for the extra long trip and offered that the situation was a “first for him too.”
An American Airlines flight attendant took to social media because she wants premium cabin customers to know that they are not entitled to a bottle of water. Traditionally you’ll find a bottle of water at your seat when flying long haul in business class. Alaska Airlines gives you one at your seat domestically. But if you ask for one, that’s at the discretion of the crewmember on American – and this one wants you to know that it is a privilege and not a right.
One of the major complaints I see from flight attendants (and other employees, but mostly flight attendants) is that standby passengers make it difficult for them to fly free as nonrevs. All they see if passengers filling up a flight as a standby, ahead of them on the list to get onto a flight. They do not ‘see’ the flight the passenger comes off of, freeing up more seats for nonrevs.
One woman flying American Airlines did a great job. She packed a great-looking snack box. A well-fed kid will be a happier kid, and that’s great for everyone in the cabin! But her three year old nephew didn’t get a chance to eat the snacks, because a crewmember on the St. Louis to Dallas… took them away?
If there’s one thing that differentiates Southwest Airlines from other carriers, besides bundling checked bags into the fare and not assigning seats prior to boarding, it’s that their employees don’t seem to hate their jobs. This comes out most clearly on board with flight attendant hijinks, whether it’s hiding inside of overhead bins, making crowns for passengers out of snacks, or offering a creative twist on safety announcements.
