Passenger Spends 5 Hours In The Lavatory To Avoid Spreading Covid-19

Dec 30 2021

Flights have diverted when passengers spent too long in the lavatory, or left their electronic devices behind there. But passengers don’t usually spend the bulk of the flight inside except when airlines take off with more passegners than seats.

One woman though spent 5 hours in the lavatory of her Icelandair flight because she tested herself for Covid while in the air, found she was positive, and was determined not to expose other passengers to the virus.

Wow Air’s CEO Pledged His Home as Collateral. Now It’s For Sale.

Oct 16 2019

WOW Air CEO Skúli Mogensen pledged his home as $3 million of the collateral he used to obtain funds for fresh equity in the airline last year. Wow Air ceased operations in March, though a West Virginia heiress-turned-arms dealer bought the brand out of bankruptcy and has announced an unlikely scheme to fly again.

Now the home at Seltjarnarnes point, near Reykjavík, is for sale. The home is 6780 square feet over 3 stories and is listed at $2 million, so creditors are expected to take a significant loss.

Classic Anti-Competitive Behavior: With Other Airlines Gone, American Drops Dallas – Iceland Service Too

Aug 12 2019

In November 2017 American Airlines announced Dallas Fort-Worth – Reykjavik service. They were only flying there because two Icelandic carriers started flying to Dallas. It was classic capacity dumping. Now with those airlines gone from the market, American is pulling out too — and moving their Reykjavik flight to Philadephia, where they’d have logically put it all along.

Jun 06 2019

The world airline trade group IATA says the Boeing 737 MAX could fly again in August. Not everyone is so sure. Different countries’ regulators are taking different approaches, though the US is pushing for many countries to re-certify the plane at the same time — and quickly.

Icelandair has leased aircraft to pick up the slack for grounded 737 MAXs, and in a move that reveals a shocking lack of confidence in the aircraft returning to their skies any time soon the airline has let go of 45 Boeing 737 MAX pilots.

Fare Alert: Business Class to Iceland from $740 Roundtrip

iceland
May 12 2019

Icelandair is offering business class between the US and Reykjavik from $740 roundtrip. I frequently see US East Coast – Iceland for around $1800 round trip. This is a much better fare, and deep discounts are available even from farther West where prices are generally higher. And the great thing is this deal is even available during summer, which is a great time to visit Iceland!

You can fly from Boston ($740), Washington ($790), Montreal ($740), Chicago ($740), Orlando ($860), Tamps ($860), Vancouver ($820), Denver ($840), and Seattle ($860).

Icelandair Buying Wow Air: End of Low Cost Europe Fares Coming?

Nov 05 2018

Low cost transatlantic carrier Primera has gone out of business while Wow Air cuts routes. Norwegian is selling planes and could still be acquired by British Airways parent IAG.

The market for flying passengers across the Pond at low prices is being shaken up. There was too much capacity pushing down prices too far especially as fuel prices rise. Now it looks like we’re seeing some actual consolidation in this market.

FARE ALERT: Several Cities – Even West Coast – to Europe From $263 Roundtrip

cityscape near canal
May 22 2018

Right now there’s the lowest fare available that I’ve seen between the West Coast and Europe in awhile. You can fly San Francisco to London for as little as $263 roundtrip. And it’s not even a basic economy fare, it’s on Icelandair which gives you an advance seat assignment, a carry on bag at no extra charge.

But that’s not all, fares between the US and Europe are available from a variety of cities and on several airlines, each with a Google Flights link that’ll pull up a sample itinerary at the current lowest fare:
