The U.S. Drug Czar Rahul Gupta is being slammed as “egocentric” and a “primma donna” who creates a “toxic work environment.” Most striking is that he’ll blow up months of work on a trip when he learns that he’d have to fly Southwest Airlines.
Southwest has a government-granted near monopoly at Dallas Love Field airport. The airline, which fought tooth and nail for the right to be allowed to fly there as an upstart, and now uses the machinations of government to keep out competitors. With only two gates at the airport usable by competitors, no one can build a customer base to make flights work.
Last week Southwest Airlines unveiled images of its new cabin and seats. It was striking that these seats look thin and not well padded – a genuine downgrade from the older tan seats that are still flying and even less comfortable than the seats in the 737 MAX 8 today.
They’re not adding more seats to the planes. So what are they doing with the extra room they create?
I find the older tan seats more comfortable than the ones in the 737 MAX 8 today, and I expect more comfortable than these new Recaro seats will be.
I’ve reached out to Southwest about whether their new pilot contract contains changes that would make it easier to add seats.
Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews advised a doctor and saved a passenger’s life on board a Southwest Airlines flight from Baltimore to Phoenix today. The situation onboard the aircraft had become tense after a woman suddenly became critically ill, with an extremely low blood pressure and a lack of strong pulse, necessitating the immediate use of oxygen. A doctor and nurse on board volunteered to help stabilize the woman’s condition, but her heart rate remained unstable. Andrews stepped in. He suggested that the woman’s symptoms might be due to her blood sugar levels and offered his personal diabetic testing kit as a potential solution. He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 9. Last year a billboard appeared along Interstate 35 near Fort Worth highlighting website SouthWoke.com calling on Southwest Airlines to ‘shut up’ about liberal politics and focus on flying.
So it’s no surprise that when Southwest tweeted a photo of an all-female flight crew, writing “Go off, queens!” people reacted.
Over the summer a woman noticed the guy seated in front of her and ‘took her shot’ writing her number on a Southwest Airlines napkin and passing it to him, suggesting he text her if he is single and interested.
