United Boeing 737-900 Dramatic Engine Flame-Out Sparks MAX Confusion
As the aircraft climbed through 12,000 feet, the left engine “emitted a series of bangs and streaks of flames.” Pilots returned to the airport after advising air traffic control of an engine stall, and the plane landed safely around 35 minutes after departure. United assigned another aircraft to operate the flight and passengers were delayed a little over 3 hours.
All seems pretty normal, right? Well, two things are notable about this flight:
United Airlines Will Fly To Marrakesh, Cebu, And Medellin
United Airlines has real claim to being the U.S. global carrier. They’re already the only U.S. airline flying to the Philippines – having launched Manila service – and now will fly to Cebu there as well (via Tokyo). They’ll add service to Morocco – direct to Marrakesh – and to Medellin, Colombia. Fifth freedom flying from Japan and love for their Houston hub make these adds even more interesting.
New United Airlines Policy Helps Flight Attendants Stay Safe From Passengers While Off-Duty
Last Spring United Airlines introduced wings with crew names and pronouns. These replaced separate nametags and crew wings. And the flight attendants union filed a grievance – not against the option to display pronouns, but because they say this jeopardized flight attendant safety.
United Airlines Crew Closes Down The Lavatory, “This Is For Pilots Only”
This took place on a flight from Washington Dulles to Munich this week on board a Boeing 767-400, which has 34 business class seats and just two lavatories in that cabin. Business class passengers were limited to using a single lavatory during the flight, as one of the bathrooms was locked by the pilot during the flight while a line of passengers were waiting to use it.
United Airlines Will Return To Tel Aviv Starting March 2
United Airlines, like all other U.S. airlines, suspended service after the October 7th Hamas attacks on Israel. In fact, most of the world’s airlines stopped flying to Israel while El Al continued service with little interruption.
Now United has announced its plan to return.
$9,000 for Dirt? The Overlooked Cleanliness Gap in High-End Air Travel
The least that an airline can do is clean the cabin and check that the seats are working before boarding the plane.
$18,000 Ticket to Nowhere: United Airlines Pilot Grounds 1K Passenger for Foul Language
A United Airlines pilot who flies Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft kicked a top MileagePlus elite passenger off of a cross country flight from Newark to San Francisco and shared the story to social media.
The captain had gone up to the gate for paperwork and overheard this ‘1K’ customer cursing at the gate agent prior to boarding at Newark airport.
Pilot Comes Into The Cabin, Sees Wing Damage Leading To Emergency Landing For United Flight
United Airlines flight 354 from San Francisco to Boston was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Denver on Monday due to damage observed on the aircraft’s wing.
While the aircraft was cruising at 31,000 feet, passengers reported seeing damage to the slats on the right wing.
United Airlines Just Grounded A Fleet Of Planes Because Its No Smoking Signs Don’t Turn Off
United Airlines was the first airline to create a nonsmoking section back in 1971. Delta was the first to fully ban smoking worldwide in 1994. U.S. airlines were no longer permitted to allow smoking on any flight starting in 2000. Yet planes still have ashtrays! You’ll usually find them in or near the lavatory, because customers may smoke even though it’s illegal to do so. Passengers need to be told when not to smoke. And crewmembers need to be able to turn on that sign. If they can’t turn it on, because it is always on, then an exemption from the rule must be requested. Oops!
