WD40 is incredibly smelly, find some other teflon spray that has less odor.
One drawback of WD-40 or oil for some uses is that dirt and grit will stick to it.
There is a dry Teflon powder if you can find a tube or molybdenum disulfide powder or the old standby graphite powder (Lock-Ease for one) . Apply sparingly . Graphite , in particular, is very messy so take precautions when applying .
To be fair WD-40 is very ,very useful . I buy it by the gallon
