Wrapping up Northwest’s Fly Free Faster 5 Bonus

Last month I detailed Northwest’s Fly Free Faster 5 bonus. Over the past week I’ve gone through the hoops to earn it.

Last weekend I applied for a Northwest Visa Signature, I received the card on Friday . That qualified me for the Fly Free Faster 5 bonus. I promptly registered that credit card to earn Northwest miles at iDine (er, “Rewards Network”) restaurants.

Last Monday I transferred 1000 Goldpoints into 125 Northwest miles and 1000 Diners Club Club Rewards points into 1000 Northwest points.

This weekend I racked up two iDines with the Northwest credit card.

Once those points post, and I receive the Visa bill, I’ll have 5 partner credits and I’ll receive the 10,000 bonus miles. The Visa will provide another 25,000 miles, and I’ll earn about another 2,000 miles from the partner activities.

  1. How will the visa provide 25,000 miles? I thought it would only give you 15,000.

  2. I already have Visa Platinum. Can I get the ‘Signature Visa’ with 15k miles???

  3. Question regarding GP to NW miles – how did you transfer only 1K, on their website, it says 5K GP = 500 NW miles – I’ve got about 1500 GP & would love to transfer out 1000 into NW – did you just call them & they did it?

    Thanks, Gary!

  4. To Samir — If you signed up for Goldpoints through Radisson hotels, your transfer ratio is 1000 Golpoints –> 125 airline miles, not 10:1… And the minimum for transferring out of Goldpoints is 1000, not 5000. You can’t do this online, you have to call. However there won’t be any problem at all. Just say you want to transfer 1000 Goldpoints to NW.

HOWEVER if you signed up directly on the Goldpoints site, through TGI Fridays, or whatnot then you don’t get this better ratio.

To Cody — sorry for any confusion, the NW Visa signup bonus is 15k, the FFF5 bonus is 10k, total of 25k.

To JJD — you can get a signup bonus for each NW Visa product (Business card, platinum card, signature card). I’ve never had a platinum and a signature card at the same time, but my hunch is it would work without having to cancel the plat card first. If you try it, report back. Otherwise just get the business card, you can definitely have that along with a personal card at the same time (and we all have businesses, “Our Name & Associates”).
