The night of the Star MegaDO launch party, I checked into the Radisson near National airport in order to earn the Club Carlson 50,000 point bonus.
It was a Saturday night stay, and points posted last night.
One rule that struck me curious about the promotion was the requirement not just to check in in person (so that one person couldn’t go do a mass check-in for 50 people) but also to check out in person. I didn’t think it would actually be enforced. Were they really going to make hotels verify who had come to the desk for checkout? Were they really going to add that as an IT capability? It seemed a stretch.
And in my case, it certainly wasn’t enforced.
Nobody checks out of a hotel unless there is a problem with the bill or they are leaving early. They slip the bill under your door or with SPG they email you the bill and your on your way in the morning! Been years since I actually went to the desk to check out.
I WAS NOT REQUIRED TO CHECK OUT IN PERSON BUT THEY DID ASK FOR A PHOTO I.D. TO CHECK IN – UNUSUAL IN MY EXPERIENCE.
I didnt check out but I have not received my country in points yet from my stay on june 3rd.
I saw at least one report on FT CC forum that someone checked out over the phone and points posted without issue. I’m thinking of doing the same.
Did the trifecta, got all the points, but I did not automatically get a bill at the Park Inn (Montreal) so YMMV.
“it certainly wasn’t enforced.”= checking out or checking in or both?
I got my Radisson and Park Inn (LHR). Sadly no Country inn in Europe.
@Zz- sorry checking out
@Maximizer I didn’t check out at all, but then I often don’t at US properties
I did check out just in case and got my buddy check in so that we both get the bonus points
I don’t think they enforce either
I realize that many people are just going for the points and not bothering with staying in the room at all after they check in. I opted to use my stay for a long weekend by booking the Country Inn and Suites Park N’ Fly package which gave me lodging for one night and up to seven days of parking for $99. This option saved me the cost of cabs to/from ORD (at least $45 each way), or the pricy airport parking charges ($31-33/D in main lot) if I had driven myself. Booking through TopCashBack added a 10% rebate.
I was able to hit the trifecta for both my wife and myself, so we’ll net close to 300k points when it’s all said and done. We never officially checked out at any of the 6 stays.
HOWEVER — the points from the Country Inn stay which we reserved in advance of the actual promotion sign-up have still not posted, nearly 3 weeks later while the other 2 from Radisson and Park Inn posted within just a few days.
Anyone else waiting on Country Inn points or on reservations made before the promo which they were supposed to honor after all?
My spouse and I each checked in separately at CI&S, went to the rooms to check them out (we are always looking for decent hotel rooms for when family comes to visit), left a few minutes later, then I called the next day and checked both of us out. Got the points a few days later. Seems that the consensus is that check out is not enforced.
I checked out from a CountryInn on Tuesday morning, my points posted this (Friday) early afternoon.
I didn’t check in or out and my miles posted as well.
