You’re probably not going to find Singapore Airlines first class saver awards flying New York JFK – Frankfurt – Singapore very often. You’re not going to find first class saver awards on Singapore’s new Airbus A380 Suites product. But that doesn’t mean saver first class isn’t available, and it doesn’t mean Suites awards aren’t available.
If you want to fly the new suites product so far only available on a few routes, you can use miles but you’ll pay standard award pricing not saver award pricing.
You need to be using Singapore’s own miles for these awards. Fortunately Singapore Airlines Krisflyer miles are easy to come by since Singapore is a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, and Citi ThankYou Rewards. So points can be transferred from cards such as:
- Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card has an 80,000 point signup bonus after $5000 spend within 3 months. It earns 3 points per dollar on travel — that’s airlines, hotels, rental cars, tolls, even Uber — and 3 points per dollar on shipping and advertising on social media and search engines, so great for anyone who advertises on Facebook or Twitter, or who spends money advertising with Google.
- Chase Sapphire Preferred Card lets you earn 50,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. With a $0 annual fee the first year, then $95, I suggest that as the number on card to get started with in miles and points. The card earns two points on travel and dining at restaurants and 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases worldwide.
- Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN offers 50,000 Membership Rewards points after $5,000 spend on purchases with the card within your first 3 months of cardmembership. (Offer expired)
- Citi ThankYou® Premier Card is offering a 50,000 point signup bonus after $4000 in purchases on the card within your first 3 months of account opening. It has a $0 annual fee the first year, $95 thereafter. And it’s a stronger points-earning card than the $450 annual fee Citi Prestige Card since it doesn’t just earn triple points on air and hotel (Prestige) but on all travel (such as gas). (Offer expired)
I often write about fantastic first class award space on Singapore Airlines Los Angeles – Tokyo. That’s on Singapore’s older Boeing 777 first class product.
Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER First Class
On the whole though Singapore Airlines saver first class is available using Singapore Airlines Krisflyer miles as long as it’s not New York JFK – Frankfurt – Singapore and as long as it’s not a route with the brand new A380 product.
Here’s Singapore – London in first class for two passengers. The cost is 115,000 miles each way.
Here’s Singapore – Paris in first class for two passengers, 115,000 miles each way:
And here’s Singapore – Sydney in first class for two passengers, 80,000 miles each way:
Many of these flights are on A380s, Singapore’s older suites product which is still – a decade on – one of the best first class offerings in the world.
Singapore Airlines offers one of the better premium products in the world, and their awards are easier to book than many people imagine. It’s just that booking the newest product and booking the New York JFK flight are challenges at the saver level.
Thanks Gary, very helpful! Where are you seeing that full calendar availability view? Is that a third party tool?
@Eric – this is AwardNexus
Gary,
Can you do London/Paris – Sydney with the connection in Singapore as one KF award or does that price as 2 separate awards?
@Common – you can do it as a connection, sure. And if you want a stopover on a one way award you can pay for that
So for those of us in ny redeeming krisflyer miles for suites is still anything but easy. I’ve had waitlists flights over past years and zero of them cleared. LA to tokyo used to have the older suites product now they don’t even have that.
