American Rolled Out Prepaid Checked Baggage to All 50 States
This past weekend American Airlines expanded their test of letting customers prepay checked bag fees online in advance (between 4 and 24 hours prior to departure) to all 50 states for domestic itineraries. This should save customer and agent time at the airport, and ultimately save American money.
Citi Gutting Most Travel Protections and Other Card Benefits Across All Premium Products
I’m now questioning whether to get the Citi Prestige card again, after all. The card’s 5 points per dollar on air will no longer come with trip delay and baggage delay coverage. Notably of course many of these benefits don’t come with American Express cards, but it makes my Chase-issued premium cards more attractive.

I’ve paid a child $5 not to recline his seat so I open my laptop and work during a Cleveland – Los Angeles flight. I paid a teen $10 for a seat at an OTG iPad near my gate during a 4 hour delay. I haven’t ever bought another passenger’s seat, though.
A View from the Wing reader, though, gave up his seat so a family could sit together and then promptly sold the seat to another passenger for $100. Who would say no to $1500?
Website Leak: Alila Hotels Start Joining World of Hyatt on Tuesday
It was only just October that I broke the news that Hyatt would acquire Two Roads Hospitality and the Thompson, Destination, Joie de Vivre, Alila and tommie hotel brands.
Already Hyatt has integrated Thompson Hotels and Joie de Vivre hotels. The brand I’ve been looking forward to though is Alila.
With Double the Planes Out of Service Each Day, American’s Employees Resort to Gallows Humor
American Airlines CEO Doug Parker told employees at an internal question and answer session this week that historically they’ve started each day with an average of 35 aircraft out of service, but recently they’ve been starting out with 65 planes out of service thanks as a result of conflict with the carrier’s mechanics.
Later on he talked about how the airline’s operation is taking a toll on airport staff.
