[Roundup] DHS Says All States Now Comply With READ ID. That Isn’t True.

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • The Department of Homeland Security is now crowing that all states are now REAL ID compliant. First, this refers only to states, there are US territories they are still harassing with this (American Samoa, Mariana Islands). Second, many states are not in actual compliance and DHS simply has chosen to ignore it. The major item of non-compliance is uploading drivers license data into a national database, something half of states still do not do. But what’s a little statuatory language these days when pursuing a political victory?

  • Marriott LaGuardia is housing the homeless, but they have to use the back door a weird stance, if they take the business shouldn’t they take the business?

  • United foreign base flight attendants being furloughed United is closing Tokyo Narita, Hong Kong and Frankfurt bases, suggesting that flight attendants can transfer to the U.S. but… only if they are work authorized in the U.S. United says their London base is overstaffed.

  • How Delta is avoiding furloughs. Not pretty but better than the alternative.

  • Buh bye.

  • Customs put out a press release proud of themselves for confiscating counterfeit Apple AirPods, except they weren’t Apple products – just a rival company’s product. (HT: One Mile at a Time)

  1. READ ID? I get that you’re not an actual media outlet (just the “Thought Leader in Travel”), but surely you could proofread at least the headline?
