News and notes from around the interweb:
- Hilton is offering 10,000 bonus points for your first Workspace By Hilton stay booked and completed between November 5, 2020 – March 31, 2021. Of course stackable with other promos, elites are eligible for upgrades, and Diamonds get lounge access (offerings these days, ahem, vary).
- American Express is nearly doubling the size of its San Francisco Centurion lounge to 16,000 square feet. Timeline for construction hasn’t been announced, however a spokesperson tells me “[t]he lounge will remain open during most of construction, with phased partial closures as necessary.”
- Giving Canadian airlines a bailout if they refund customer money from cancelled flights is insane. Canadians should no longer support protectionism for airlines based in their country. (HT: Tyler)
- Etihad will become a ‘mid-sized carrier’ focused on widebody operations
- Chow Yun Fat flew Cathay Pacific first class from Los Angeles to Hong Kong and insisted on instant noodles from economy for breakfast because he didn’t want to trouble the flight attendant to make something customized. Actually going back to economy for instant noodles may have been just as much trouble as heating something up already in the first class galley…
He could also have had the business class noodles - Just because you didn’t book your hotels direct with Marriott doesn’t mean your data was secure
Prestige Software, the company behind hotel reservation platforms for Hotels.com, Booking.com and Expedia, left data exposed for “millions” of guests on an Amazon Web Services S3 bucket. The 10 million-plus log files dated as far back as 2013 and included names, credit card details, ID numbers and reservation details.
It’s not certain how long the data was left open, or if anyone took the data.
chow yun fat is one of the few and increasingly rare hong kong stars who is taking a stand against the mainland’s vile treatment of hong kong. he was quoted as saying something to the effect of, so what if he gets fewer jobs or no jobs. that, and the many instances (in public encounters) where it is shown he is an all around good guy and not some “look at me’/”don’t you know who i am?” style.
Gary, your comment about Chow Yun Fat is funny. I have to say Chow is nice guy. Please don’t be so mean on him
Every time I ordered hot snack in Cathay’s first or business class, I was told to wait 10-15 minutes while they prepared it.
Instant noodle probably just takes boiling the water and pouring it into the noodle cup.
