News and notes from around the interweb:
- FAA wants you to know that the biggest problem in the air is you.
Wheel Of Fortune: "What ruins your flight?"
2023: FAA outages, lack of staffing, and 20 years of malinvestment in technology.

- How to do laundry in a hotel sink.
VERDICT!
I tried both (+ bar soap) on different pairs of (modal) underwear. IMO, the shower gel cleaned more easily but both worked and felt okay after thorough rinsing. So, shampoo in a pinch. Bar soap is a distant third – harder to work with and left a residue.

- Delta has gotten its operational reliability up to where it’s generally outperforming competitors, though not yet close to what they were doing pre-pandemic. But one thing that hasn’t seemed to recover is cabin maintenance and cleanliness, the latter an area of real competence during Covid. Day in and day out I’m seeing gnarly photos of Delta interiors on Twitter – more so than for other airlines.
Ooh @Delta you might want to clean your planes properly…. The layer of dirt and dust is quite thick and looks even grosser in person 🤢 flight 2300 from Gainesville to Atlanta today. pic.twitter.com/AqlBJXScoL

- Delta’s meal service has also lagged competitors. A far cry from the elevated service in economy they were promoting in summer 2019.
@Delta for the cost of the tickets this food is not fit for PETs. pic.twitter.com/nltz09obwY

- Like the Red Dot Sweater on Seinfeld airlines really should discount when they sell non-conforming products.
@AmericanAir why do you charge full price for seats on a plane that have to be taped together? pic.twitter.com/MuVDCD6BnP

This week a former student shared with me, “Mr. Leff will not miss the hotel room checks”
Eh, the FAA’s reaction is typical of what you get from the current administration and the (now long established) administrative State: it’s your fault, sit down, shut up and thank us for what we do…whether you like how we do it or not!
It didn’t take long for this to get political. Poster thinks this all started in Jan 2021.
I’ve easily been on 1,000 flights. I’ve never encountered an “unruly passenger.” I’ve suffered ATC delays well over 100 times. I think I know which problem needs to be solved.
@Chopsticks – Same here. I’m well over 3 million miles and I’ve never had a flight delayed for an unruly passenger (although I’ve certainly flown with some jerks). I’ve had a bunch of ATC-related delays and subsequent misconnections though. All those taxes and they can’t seem to make the necessary improvements.
@chopsticks: Your experience matches mine as well. The most unruly pax end up on YT and the news – because it’s the exception and thus newsworthy. ATC related flight delays only make the news when the system completely breaks down. Which is seems to do quite a bit.
Way before there were Unruly Passengers there was Greedy Selfish Uncaring Airlines.
All the ATC guys and girls, regardless of airport, should have holograms by now. Showing aircraft colors, flight numbers, vector, altitude etc. etc. I’m surprised the existing system works as well as it currently does.
@Gary – Actually WOF is saying that it’s not you unless you are one of the crazy few.
I looked and USA Today reports that there are only 2 “unruly passenger incidents” per 10,000 flights. Not sure what counts as an “incident,” but it certainly explains why several of the very frequent flyers here have never encountered this very rare problem.

@chopsticks
The FAA cannot admit fault and it must always be some other person’s fault.
