Think Twice Before Putting Your Feet Into the Seat Pocket – What Might Be Lurking There [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Dirty diapers have been down there, and the seat back pocket hasn’t been wiped down in eons. Eeewwww.

  • Last month Citi and Chase updated their Global Entry benefit to a reimbursement of up to $120 (to coincide with the Global Entry price increase). Barclays is updating its benefit to $120, also.

Effective October 1 when the price of Global Entry changes the benefit will match on: AAdvantage® Aviator® World Elite Silver Mastercard®; Emirates Skywards Premium World Elite Mastercard®; Mastercard® Gold Card™; Mastercard® Black Card™; Priceline VIP Rewards™ Visa® Card; Barclays Arrival® Premier World Elite Mastercard®.

  • Genuinely cannot wait to see this hotel re-open a year and a half from now. There’s something special about the Park Hyatt Tokyo (beyond Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in Lost In Translation) but it needed a refresh even a decade ago.

  • A year and a half ago, JetBlue and Etihad announced a partnership (that replaced JetBlue’s Emirates partnership, with Emirates partnering with United). Mileage earn and redemption will finally launch May 8.

  • I think this is kind of creepy, actually.

  • When cabin interiors look like this, passengers wonder about the parts of the plane they can’t see. That isn’t actually how this works, but it’s how most customers think.

  1. Another day another Gary foot fetish post. I wonder if feet haunt his dreams or something?

  2. I vividly remember 9/11/01… I was an 18 year old delinquent.. my friend and I had been to a concert the night before and we stayed up all night, we were a bit delirious. On the plane they served us bananas which we smashed in the seat-back pockets.

  3. “@united this plane is being held together with tape!!!”

No, it isn’t. Just a temporary repair to one of the seats. It’s not nice, but it’s not worthy of Max’s drama queen post there. I’m honestly sick of whiny little snowflakes like this guy.

  4. I have been flying for over two decades and can confidently say that I have never thought *once* about doing that, let alone twice…

  5. I cleaned planes (among many other duties) as an airline supervisor) for 20 years.

Never, ever put your hand or anything else in a seat pocket before looking. The things I’ve found…

  6. @greggb57: I used to run cabin appearance for a major airline. I think in my hall of fame is probably the dirty diaper someone managed to shove down into the tray table compartment of a business class-type seat armrest then somehow got the tray back in there. Up there with the lavatory sink so perfectly filled with diarrhea without a drop anywhere else.

I’ve always coached agents on security search be careful with seat pockets as I know of more than a few people who have found needles in there by surprise.
