News and notes from around the interweb:

- “Florida Man” gets federal prison time for attacking American Airlines gate agent at DFW airport
Surveillance footage revealed that on Oct. 5, 2024, at Gate A36 at DFW Airport, Owens repeatedly punched the American Airlines gate agent in the head, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a release Friday. …Owens was late and at the wrong gate — A36 instead of A35 — when the gate agent informed him of the correct gate, prompting Owens to curse and walk away.
Owens attempted to board at Gate A35 without scanning his boarding pass after the gate agent had radioed Gate A35 to inform airline personnel that Owens appeared intoxicated. Owens was removed from the jet bridge by airline personnel. Owens returned to Gate A36, where he yelled at the gate agent, grabbed him by the shoulders, and punched him repeatedly in the face and neck.
- Refunds for American Airlines involuntary downgrades now have to be processed centrally by the refunds team.
- Cathay Pacific Silver (!) members get American Airlines Flagship lounge access when taking Cathay’s Dallas – Hong Kong flight even when traveling in economy. That status is equivalent to American Airlines Gold or British Airways Bronze. Normally access is limited to oneworld sapphire members and higher.
- United wants slot controls back at Newark (where they have the slots!), slot waiver extensions (so airlines don’t have to fly, and new competitors can’t enter the market), and control of jetBlue’s slots too all aiming towards less competition and higher fares in the New York (err, mostly New Jersey) market.
So, history repeats itself, or at least rhymes. Sounds like those 90’s jeans are back after all. Bah!
