- My biggest hotel room pet peeve (WaPo)
Leff has been complaining for more than 10 years about one particular hotel design choice: a bed frame that stretches far past the mattress.
He said hotels opt for those types of frames “surprisingly often.” Just ask his shins.
“I know this because I bump into it every single time,” he said. “You’d think that I would get it after the first time in a room. But I will bump it multiple times during the stay.”
Five days after speaking to The Post about the issue, he sent a photo of a large bed frame with the message: “literally just hit my shin on a hotel bed frame.” Five days after that, another photo and message: “I just did it again.”

Toronto burger shop called Good Fortune Burger renamed its menu items to sound like office supplies, helping remote workers potentially expense meals through work accounts.

Regarding that last item, the Good Fortune Burger scam is not going to work, at least with major companies. They use services that validate the Merchant Category Codes (MCC’s) listed by their Credit Card supplier for credit card charges. In one incident, a “house of ill repute” in Asia was pretending to be a restaurant and charging extremely high meal costs so that businessmen could receive “services” billed to their company. Didn’t work out so well for them…
He had a choice not to stay at the hotel. and yet has been complaining about it for past decade.
I’m not sure that the issue with stubbing legs, feet and/or toes against the edges of beds at hotels has gotten worse for me, but I have learned the “ouch way” to watch out not only at hotels but also at the homes of friends & family and rental homes.
Assuming the hotel has more than one in the room, I grab a couple bath towels, stuff them around the end. I still hit it, but it’s tolerable.
I can honestly say, I’ve never hit my shin on a hotel bed. I don’t see why anyone would walk that close. Maybe it’s because we have a platform bed in one bedroom, but why are you hugging the bed in the first place?
Right now, I have bruises on both legs from these beds.particularly dangerous in small rooms of millennial hotels.
What I hate are benches at the foot of the bed. At least they can be moved out of the way.
I don’t rent hotel rooms very much anymore but I don’t remember hitting my shins on the corner of the bed before. I sometimes stub my toes due to not paying enough attention to where I am placing my feet.
@Don G – this is many many hotels, and they don’t exactly post on their website that they use bed frames like this
Can anyone shed any light why hotel’s would want the shin killers? I doubt they’re cheaper. Does it add it housekeeping? Is it like a bumberbon a csr?
I’m glad that the doctor was able to help the sick passenger. I was seated next to a young doctor last fall. We got to talking and his life before becoming a doctor was interesting and so was the way he went around getting his education to become a doctor. We had common interests of hiking and backpacking in Arizona. I didn’t catch his full name but he gave me enough clues to find him with a Google search. His face was actually on a streetside billboard advertising his hospital. I sent him a short email about how much I liked our conversation. He seemed to be the type of doctor that most people would like to have.
Had a beautiful room at the (Marriott Autograph Collection) Ambassador Hotel in Wichita a couple of months ago, and the bed frame had understated yet effective padding on the edges.
