- Major rental car companies at airport locations used to be the best choice, despite higher taxes. They were high volume and didn’t go looking too hard for nicks and scrapes. That’s changing, and Hertz is ahead of others at this. As if Hertz hadn’t fallen enough in customer experience, they’re using AI to look for negligable damage to hit you with. They probably don’t even fix the damage after they bill you for it (and perhaps don’t notice it when the next renter leaves with the vehicle and charges them again for it?).
I recently rented a car from Hertz at IAH and upon 30 mins of dropping the car off, I received a text saying there was damage reported on the car with a $195 bill tacked on it.
Upon taking a look at the pictures included, the “dent” they’re referring to is negligible and even looks like a smudge to be quite honest.

Lookin’ good, @Walter Barry! Nice salute!
Oh Hertz, Hertz, Hertz!
When will they learn?
I was an elite member of Hertz for many years. Proud to say I have not rented from them in several years.
@David P — Oh my, a former President’s Circle member in our midst! Praise be!
In all seriousness, even Avis let me down recently at MCO. Reverted to Alamo, and it was actually alright.
Only problem is Alamo is owned by Enterprise who isn’t much better
They can be pretty scam like themselves in my own decades of experience
Granted Hertz is now the worst
@Dwondermeant — Well then, I guess I’ll just book with Natio.. oh, wait a minute.. (it’s the illusion of choice.) For real, though, Sixt has treated me alright. Usually nicer cars, but often pricier.
@ Gary — I cant wait for Hertz to do this to a retired lawyer with nothing better to do than sue them.
@Gene — You called? Bah…
As a GenXer, I really miss mooning as a form of expression
@Sukwinder Dixit — What a name!
Looked this up and found some fun facts: ‘In the United States, it’s generally legal for women to be topless in public in six states, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming. Additionally, Vermont has no laws against public nudity.
However, local ordinances may still impose restrictions, even where state laws allow it. For example, while California is generally considered to have some degree of “topless freedom,” local ordinances can still ban or allow the practice in specific areas. So, while these six states and Vermont are the most permissive, it’s wise to check local regulations before going topless in public.’
So, I suppose, if you’re ‘into’ that (and maybe be mindful of who else is around), let ‘em free, ladies and gents!
@Sukwinder Dixit — Oh, sorry, tatas were on my mind; you were interested in ‘bottom-less,’ yeah, so head to Vermont!
I was charged US$ 300 for scratches on a tire at Alamo LHR Really. I should have told them I want the Tire and brought it with me to the airport.
Sixt sent me a US$1,800 bill for scratches on a car in Norway. I sent them photos at pick up they said i should have refused the car. but no one was in the pick up and it was the LAST Automatic
Wasn’t it former Qatar CEO Akbar Al Baker who said Delta flies “crap airplanes”? He’s a prophet!
I got screwed on a Hawaiian rental from Alamo. I dropped them. I rented a Budget car in Edinburgh. It was pouring down rain and the car was not under cover. I did a cursory walk around and photographed some easily spotted damage. The next day, I noted a tiny little “crack”…an inch long, in the windshield. It had been obscured by the rain. When I returned the car, I noted this to the agent and showed him the picture. $700.00USD for the fix. NOT GONNA PAY IT even though my credit card would cover it. SIXT…they are the “Spirit” or “Frontier” of car rental companies. I used them in Dublin, Manchester and Iceland. I should have cut them off after Dublin but I’m a glutton for punishment, I guess. Iceland was the straw that broke the back. Just plain nasty people. I did manage to get my company to drop them as a preferred vendor as I wasn’t the only complainer. So far, Hertz hasn’t messed with me for over 20 years. Fingers crossed!
I hope that mooning was worth that agent’s job.
@KidStarA — I like Qatar Airways, but Al Baker should upgrade his a330s and older 777s with 2-2-2 business class before he knocks on Delta… sheesh. Where’s @Sully of Doha these days?!
