Airfare Spot reports on SkyTeam airlines Delta, Air France and KLM offering fares starting at $380 roundtrip from Boston, Chicago, and Miami to Vienna.

Key things to know booking these tickets:

• Travel is permitted Sunday through Wednesday from the US to Europe, and Monday through Thursday for the return from Europe to the US.

• The fare is available for travel which starts between September 12 and December 6.

• A Saturday night stay is required, and the maximum stay allowed is 3 months.

• The fare has a $300 change fee.

Since these fares can be found using the ITA Matrix, if you go that route to search don’t forget that you can copy the itinerary into Book With Matrix to pull up the fare in bookable form.

The base fare here is $8.25 for the outbound, and $19.50 for the return. That’s a $27.75 roundtrip fare plus fuel surcharges and taxes.

Since Delta SkyMiles awards redeemable miles based on fare and surcharges, a non-elite would only earn 1140 miles for this ticket. Crediting the trip to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, though, you’ll receive about four times as many.

Vienna is great in its own right. You can’t quite do it in a night, or as quickly as you might walk Amsterdam, but you can see highlights on a Before Sunrise tour.

If you don’t fancy Vienna, it’s still a good opportunity because the two European capitals closest to each other are Vienna and Bratislava (Slovakia). Bratislava is a major hub for European low cost flights, and is often sold ‘as’ Vienna by those airlines. So head to Vienna and take off from there as well. It’s a great fare for fall travel!
