Qatar flies to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas Fort-Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York JFK, Philadelphia, and Washington Dulles.
As a result of political turmoil in the Mideast (Qatar finds itself in a cold war with the UAE and Saudi Arabia), Qatar Airways is unable to serve several destinations in the region. Their planes are less full than they otherwise would be. And as one potential side effect award space is fairly easy to come by.
Qatar’s old 777s don’t have QSuites – the world’s best business class – but offer fully flat 2-2-2 business class (which is still good especially for couples, with great food and service). Availability is especially good on flights that offer one of Qatar’s older products.
What you’ll find right now is outstanding availability for specific months of the year on several routes. For instance availability on the Los Angeles – Doha route is very good over the winter. Here’s a search for four passengers in business class:
Atlanta – Doha award availability is exceptional in the winter and also for June and July. Again this is a search for four passengers in business class.
Perhaps the single best route for Qatar Airways long haul availability is Houston – Doha, which is fairly wide open throughout the schedule. So whether you’re looking for something this fall, winter, or this coming spring and summer. Here again four passengers:
In general American AAdvantage miles are best for redeeming long haul business class travel on Qatar. American charges 70,000 miles each way for business class between the US and the Mideast or Indian Subcontinent.
Citi’s best-ever 70,000 mile American AAdvantage business card bonus offer is still available. The CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® has the best offer I’m aware of that they’ve ever made for the card, a 70,000 mile initial bonus after spending $4,000 within the first 4 months of account opening. This card has a $0 annual fee the first year (then $99). [Offer expired]
Many thanks for the tip/ especially as it involves LAX. Does Qatar publish through fares to the Maldives?
Have they figured out the pricing for the St. Regis in the Maldives for redemptions after the merger?
Good information. Which routes have the Qsuites?
Yes, which route have the Qsuites?
I’ll echo and add an additional wrinkle. Which routes will have qsuites in March?
You’ll also now pay double points now compared to before May 27 with this stinkin’ Qatar’s Not-So-Privileged-Club since the greatest act of deception, theft and fraud undertaken by this Middle Eastern carrier.
Devalued by 100% overnight, without notice. Thieving bastards.
Not even I thought could one airline stoop so low, but Qatar did it. And get this, if you want an award ticket, shame on you, you will pay $25 a sector. So say a return ticket from CMB to JFK will add a hefty $ USD 100 to the ticket. And get this: Screw you Platinums. They are shafting us too.
Why doesn’t it surprise me though coming from that part of the world. My god I wish I had not of invested my money and loyalty with the recalcitrants at QR for 3 years, I should have listened to my friends and the experts and gone with AA when I flicked QF. We cannot trust these people.
@Gary, what is the best way to search for this inventory? ExpertFlyer doesn’t include QR for award search. I know BA.com does include QR award inventory, but it’s a hassle to search there because BA definitely favors their own metal and it can be challenging to get them to show QR flights. Unless I’m missing something?
4 is great! After Doha, where is availability for 4 to go after that, like Africa or….?
Is it possible to search for award availability without transferring miles into my Q Miles account? I tried to search but it tells me I have insufficient miles…
@nazia – search at ba.com or the qantas website
@Gary. Can you please advise as to what award search tool you use for the screenshots in this post? I have noticed these calendars of availability in your other posts as well and would like to look into this service further. As always, thanks so much for all your insight and intel!!!
@Howard this is awardnexus.com
I don’t have award nexus unfort but have been clicking away trying to find any q suites availability to or from Doha in the next few weeks. Using BA and didn’t find one date. A month ago it was abundant. Is there ever close in Qatar availability?
Thanks Gary
