A woman waiting to check in with Southwest Airlines in Los Angeles tells another passenger, an African American man, that he’s entitled – while a Southwest employee asks her to move up in line. It seems like he’d asked her to move forward when there was plenty of room in front of her, she didn’t, and she got mad over having been asked – although exactly what transpired before the video was filmed isn’t clear.
This passenger, dubbed “LAX Karen,” yells and makes a fist at the agent who asked her to move up. That puts her on the verge of being “escorted out” of the check-in area. That’s when another agent jumps into the chat, telling her:
I don’t know what you think this is, but this is not Spirit.

But some people have empathy, so her unhappiness makes them unhappy. And some people are altruistic, willing to accept inconvenience or expense to lessen others’ inconvenience or expense, particularly when they have excellent leverage (that is, the benefit to the person being helped is many times the burden doing so imposes on them).
You can ignore the self-righteous overtones that sometimes accompany that altruism, without and need to lash out against altruists or those they might help.
R H- I am always relaxed. Why should I or anyone else have to “ignore” her? Why should we hav to put up with this crap? People who are wrongfully conducting themselves, for whatever reason, don’t get a pass. Their behavior should not be allowed or tolerated. I, and others, have the right not to be subjected to wrongful behavior -no matter what should be the cause of the behavior. Quit making excuses for these people – they are the ones in the wrong, not me or anyone else.

As was suggested above, watch the video again. What do we really see, not what you want to see? She sitting on her suitcase quietly. She’s first in line, waiting to be called up. She’s bothering no one. By her body posture, she’s tired, maybe upset. The someone asks her to move. For no real reason, as she’s next to be called. Moving means she just has to get up for five feet. She doesn’t want to. And then someone gets in her face about it. And she’s having none of it. Good reaction to being asked to move? No. But neither is forcing her to move when she clearly doesn’t want to and she’ll be moving as soon as she’s called. You gain what by moving five feet five seconds earlier? Was it worth confronting someone about this?
This is where authority figures need to learn de-escalation techniques. Which is what I think is happening at the end – the Southwest employee isn’t removing her from the line, he’s quietly taking her somewhere where she can have her meltdown, her emotional release from whatever is really bothering her. Then she’ll feel better and get a handle on her emotions. She’ll be fine. Anyone who has ever had to deal with a small child knows this. And sometimes adults are just like small children.

@C_M exactly this video tells us nothing about what happened immediately before. We know multiple people in line start talking trash to her and someone starts throwing insults calling her entitled. Gotta love so-called travel bloggers who blast these videos out on the internet for clicks and try to make it sound like its about race. We don’t know anything other than something was going on before the video started rolling because why else would someone just start videotaping. I’m not sure why the employee needs to taunt her. Seems like an unnecessary escalation of things like “you picked the wrong one” or “this isn’t spirit airlines” etc. How does such language and taunts deescalate a situation? Clearly this is someone having some sort of emotional crisis why would you pile on and taunt them? This is professionalism?

Since many other people were being affected by her actions, it is apparent that her refusing to get off her ass and move to the baggage drop off area was why others commented as to her actions.
