Last night American Airlines started showing some award space online for Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar, and SriLankan. That’s been pulled and is no longer available.
American has lagged many of their competitors for years in the ability to book award tickets on partner airlines using their website. It was exciting to see some of the biggest missing partners show up on the website.
Cathay Pacific First Class
However only some space came up — largely connecting space, when paired with American Airlines flights. For instance even though Washington Dulles – Doha was available non-stop on Qatar Airways, only British Airways to London and Qatar Airways on to Doha would come up at AA.com.
American says they’re working on this but aren’t ready to make online award booking for these partners available just yet,
Late yesterday, we incorrectly displayed award bookings for several of our partners on aa.com and they have since been removed. Making more award partners bookable on aa.com is something that our customers continually ask for, so please rest assured that we are working towards this.
For the good of members generally, I hope they get this worked out sooner rather than later. Selfishly — for myself and those of us who know how to check on the award space ourselves and know to ask for it even though it doesn’t show up at AA.com — I hope it takes them a really long time so that there remains less competition for the award seats from other members of American AAdvantage.
That wouldn’t be good for us, your readers, if it took long.
How has Iberia panned out since it got added? Harder or easier?
@Raj – you’re a reader of this blog, so you likely know how to check it elsewhere – and yes, it is good for “us” if it doesn’t show up online
I never understood why they haven’t made most of their partners available in the search engine. The value of their points would go UP and AAcould charge Citi more.
Iberia availability on AA really took a dive when available on line.
AAdvantage is almost as bad as the Management Team at the Airline. greedy, unethical and poorly run….. even the Employees will Tell You so. garbage operation
hahaha AA sucks
I like things just as they are! ‘Enhancements are bad’!
“I never understood why they haven’t made most of their partners available in the search engine.”
Probably because the harder it is to redeem at decent rates the less it costs American. Miles going unused or redeemed at bad rates is AAs dream.
When US was part of *alliance was able to see flights on LH OZ
I am anxiously awaiting mainly from the LATAM on-line booking awards
