American Tourist In Dubai Faces Jail Time For Yelling In Public [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Woman screamed at a rental car agent in Dubai who demanded payment before returning documents to her after she was a passenger in an accident. Social media influence The Sassy Trucker cannot leave the country, and her attorney says she’s being held for something that a similarly-situated male could do.
@themaindarian2 😳😳😳 "It also could result in prison time. So it’s very scary," explains Allen’s mom Tina Baxter who says the trip turned terrifying for her daughter #TierraYoungAllen when she was a passenger in a friend’s rental car, and they got into an accident there in Dubai. Baxter says when her daughter went to the rental car company to retrieve her ID, credit card, and other items left in the rental it didn’t go well. "She found out she could only receive those items if she paid an undisclosed amount of money. She dealt with a very aggressive individual a young man there who was screaming at her," Baxter adds, and she says her 29-year-old daughter ultimately yelled back resulting in her daughter being charged for screaming there in Dubai. #truckdriver #dubai #themaindarian #houston #yikes #jailtime #texas ♬ original sound – TheMainDarian2

  1. @Woofie – agree completely. Amazes me how many people don’t do any research of laws and customs in places they visit. American laws and customs don’t travel, regardless of how “unfair” people think that is.

I’ve traveled extensively and research laws and customs (plus what may offend) and also try to learn a little of the language. If traveling to places like Italy or France I get semi-conversant and even if Denmark, Iceland, Croatia, Middle East etc I learn a few basic words.

No sympathy for people that get in trouble in another countries

  2. Been to Dubai multiple times. Never a moments trouble. But don’t go screaming at anyone either. They are, for the most part, a very polite country. But never forget the laws are different.

  3. If it weren’t for the cabotage restrictions, perhaps CUN could even be considered an American Airlines hub of sort.

  4. Influencers, please just stay home. Or don’t plan on coming back. Thank you.

  5. You can certainly be arrested in the US for yelling at someone. It can be assault.

  6. I can’t imagine all the disgusting abusive racial slurs this woman has said to the rental employee. Have decency respect courtesy morality whatever you are and especially in UAE which is a country full of lawful legal immigrants and also where crime is super low . This ain’t NYC or Houston where crime is normalized!

  7. Black people should not be insulting others when traveling outside of their home country.. Especially black women traveling in a country that has different laws for men and women. I’m not trying to make some kind of racist statement.. I’m just talking common sense. It’s the same when it comes to giving the police a hard time. If you are black, you don’t get as much leeway. I know from experience.

  8. You don’t need to imagine disgusting abusive racial slurs, Jim- all you need to do is scroll through the comments above (or, honestly, read your own)… Just because a woman is black and loud, doesn’t make her a “low life looser” (honestly, why can’t abusive MAGAheads spell?).

  9. Cancun is like the Las Vegas of Latin America and the Caribbean. When is a US airline going to open a lounge in Cancun? Both cities are remarkably popular and yet both lack airline lounges.

  10. Um, I picked up and returned a holiday rental car at DXB, last year. Funny parking my little Picolo rental car next to the superexotics at the resort, and next to the Rolls-Royce at the supermarket. The rental office is in a hut like any 3rd rate American airport rental hut or third world rental hut. I got and returned my rental but it took some time and patience. After returning the rental and waiting in the airport lounge, I got text messages from the counterman about missing documents, etc. I texted back that any and all documents were left in the glove compartment of the car. It is easy to imagine a less patience and experienced tourist might get to shouting. Best wishes to all the involved parties.

  11. It’s an unfortunate fact that a large swath of Americans, English, Scottish, Australians, live amongst such uncultured and uneducated disfunction that they don’t really know how to interact or behave properly in places where people don’t tolerate or accept rude or aggressive behavior as a matter of course, and its all too easy for such people to come into conflict with locals and authorities when the two mix.

I’m rather circumspect of her parent’s side of the story and would be interested to hear what the authorities have to say. In any case, hopefully they’ll send her home soon.

  12. Just a quick look at her Instagram shows she is total trash. Clearly a very low-class, uneducated, overentitled self-proclaimed social influencer.
In summary a recipe for disaster.
Just wearing what she wears on Instagram would get her arrested in half the countries of the world.

Dubai is a place where people are proud of what they achieve and I have never heard anybody raise their voice for any reason there.
They welcome foreigners with the understanding they will respect their way of living.
The main draws to Dubai are the political neutrality (even Russians are welcomed) and the taxes, or lack of, that are perfect for wealthy digital nomads.

The main thing here is she was involved in an accident, we don’t the details here and that may be the reason they kept her ID, maybe she owes repair costs to the rental company.

  13. While I agree with the trash assessment note that her documents were effectively being held for ransom. She was a passenger, not the driver, she can’t be at fault.

  14. Sassy Trucker indeed. She lives up to the name. Unfortunately she did it at a time and place where there isn’t much tolerance for that sort of thing.

Maybe when it’s all said and done she’ll emerge a less sassy trucker.

  15. You can certainly be arrested in the US for yelling at someone. It can be assault.

…or get shot 50 times if the person you yelled at is white and is a police officer

  16. This comment goes to mak and Mike and jim you all sound stupid. They were extorting her for more money so I don’t know why you would call that civilized. And since when is Dubai civilized? They are importing girls for sexual deviancy. They flew an ig model out there to have sex with a 12 year old boy. You are fooled by the money and the towers into thinking its a clean and moral paradise when in fact Dubai is just as dirty as everywhere else. I see alot of racist trash in this comment section.

  17. @Patrice Actually, in the USA we have the 1st Amendment and you can yell at anybody as loudly as you like and say whatever you please to them . . . just so long it doesn’t create a reasonable fear of imminent violence . . . then it’s assault.

  18. Good. Keep her there for awhile. No sympathy for her. No sympathy for entitled people that get in trouble in another countries.

  19. You are welcome in Dubai as long as you are spending freely and you don’t draw the attention of the authorities. They are a Muslim nation. Foreigners, especially non Muslims, have no rights if there is a conflict.

  20. “Black people should not be insulting others when traveling outside of their home country.. Especially black women traveling in a country that has different laws for men and women”

Above the Winds may no effort to explain in the article that the lady was a victim of a well-known SCAM carried out by car rental companies in Dubai. This allows Morons like Mr. Tom to make this forum’s racist statement.

I have traveled to more than 90 questions and can assure you the popular saying “UGLY AMERICANS” was coined because of “BLACK PEOPLE” insulting people.

While do everything with you people has to be race-based? How would a high-class southern belle act if a criminal in Dubai tried to hold her hostage by seizing her passport…..let me guess will call her black maid to fetch her passport.

Why not talk about how to game the system to get miles to live out our dream of being important on airplanes and hotels?

    Respectfully
