News and Notes from Around the Interweb:
- Via Online Travel Review, LOT Polish has gotten rid of its 10th CEO in 12 years. So remind me why we had to put up with Glenn Tilton for so long?
- Pizza in Motion says Hyatt finally has a property at LAX airport — the Hyatt Place Los Angeles/LAX/El Segundo. I’ve become a fan of the new build limited-service Hyatt Place properties
- 100 Free JetBlue TrueBlue points.
- United has forced Awardwallet to stop checking account balances. Awardwallet, though, will let you configure your United.com e-statements and reservations to be sent to them directly in order to update your Awardwallet account (with instant forwarding to you). And since it appears that UsingMiles has worked out a relationship to continue displaying United balances, I’m hopeful the same will happen with Awardwallet. Presumably United is ransoming them for cash, though, and a model that’s either free to users or $5 every 6 months doesn’t support a whole lot of cash to Jeff Smisek..
- >Southwest plans to charge a fee for not cancelling tickets prior to flight. The airline that eschewed fees is now projecting 9 figure fee revenue.
Well, technically Hyatt has a Hyatt House right outside of LAX in Manhattan Beach, but it does not airport shuttles.
WN’s fee doesn’t bother me all that much. It’s not all that hard to cancel a flight you don’t intend to take just a few minutes before departure.
As far as any other advertising shenanigans go, everything is always true… until it isn’t. I remember back when they used to advertise that you would never pay more than $299 each way. My first thought was “that advertisement will always be true until they change their minds.”
Glenn please come back!
And it wouldn’t be fitting to mention UsingMiles without an update on Austin Veith:

Is it just me or does he totally look like jared loughner?
I didn’t recognize the name, but yes, they do have a resemblance.
I wonder what else is in Veith’s past? Seems like a real con man. Still seems strange to me that a few key people near him didn’t know what was going on or ever bothered to ask questions about his past.
Looks like Award Wallet is gonna end up with no programs left soon…
Southwest’s cancel/policy is so much better than any other non-elite rules for the everyday airlines. That fee is fine with me and in my view deserved if someone ties up a seat by just not showing up.
