Bonus Still Available for Opening a Delta Suntrust Debit Card

The account opening bonus is 5000 miles, the personal card comes with a $75 annual fee and the business version of the card comes with a $120 annual fee.

Debit cards don’t earn back nearly the revenue that credit cards do, and most programs have dropped their mileage-earning debit cards altogether. The personal version of this card continues to earn one mile per dollar spent.

Back in May there was a 30,000 point signup bonus. It’s hard to imagine that repeats and really did look like a sign of desperation on Suntrust’s part in order to attract deposits after failing stress tests.

I’m just happy to see the debit card option remain, since it’s less expensive to make certain kinds of payments like taxes with a debit card and through this card it’s still possible to earn miles.

  1. looks like a bad deal to me to spend 75.00 for this thing. I did not do it with the 30k bonus. Not really a fan of suntrust either but try to avoid going to banks anyway as its a waste of time.

  2. @robert w: For those of us who have large tax payments to make (because we’re self-employed) the $75 could turn into tens of thousands of points.

  3. I have had this card since 2009. I can’t have a credit card because I’m an international student, so this is perfect. Now, I only got 2000 bonus miles for signup. Cna I get to give me more? 🙁

  4. @Jeff – Yeah, I think this is the card where you had to live in a small number of states, no? NY wasn’t allowed, I believe.

  5. As far as i know using a debit or credit card to pay federal taxes has a 2 percent or so service fee. Are delta miles worth that fee?

  6. I just read garys take on the bluebird card. If that is the case I guess you can use this delta card to load funds into bluebird and get the miles up to 5k a month. the bluebird product was targeted to the unbanked but they are going to see all the high rollers.
