Hotels and resorts that make their money on gambling or in-house services want to fill their properties, and keep guests on property. Old School Vegas did this by treating guests well, especially their big spenders. And they did this through lavish buffets and shows offered at surprisingly affordable prices.

Mohegan Sun, the Connecticut casino hotel a couple of hours from Boston and about three hours from New York, has a cheap rate that comes with decadent meals and unlimited top shelf alcohol. It shouldn’t be hard to eat and drink more than the cost of the room on any given night, and that’s the sort of value proposition only old school casino hotels can offer.

May 12 2019

Icelandair is offering business class between the US and Reykjavik from $740 roundtrip. I frequently see US East Coast – Iceland for around $1800 round trip. This is a much better fare, and deep discounts are available even from farther West where prices are generally higher. The hotel benefits from being a Hyatt. They attract stays from guests loyal to the brand, and looking to earn elite night credit when staying in the area. But they appear not to want to honor the other end of their obligation by redeeming free night awards.

Delta Introduces Elite Status Family Leave Benefit

May 08 2019

Several frequent flyer programs around the world let you put your status on pause, or extend your status, when you experience major life events. It’s not nearly as common in the U.S., perhaps because we’re not as focused here on accommodating new births or medical issues as people are in Europe or Australia.

It makes all the sense in the world for a travel loyalty program, though. A customer who was incredibly valuable before having a child is likely to be incredibly valuable once the get back on the road.

Apr 26 2019

Hilton’s current promotion, great for short stays ends May 5. Not missing a beat their new promotion runs May 6 – September 8. Hilton is continuing the theme of their most common bonus, double points, but they aren’t interested in bonusing only occasional guests. They’re only offering double points starting with your second stay during the promotion period.

Doubling down, as it were, on the focus on bonusing the most frequent guests they’re adding a component to double points…
