Culinary Meltdown On Delta: Who Thought This Pizza Was A Good Idea? [Roundup]

  • This looks like a culinary crime against humanity, resembling a cheap Schwan’s knock-off, if such a thing were possible.

    For those of you who know what pizza is supposed to be, have you ever had decent pizza on a plane? It’s like United trying to do a burger. You’d have to spend real money on a premium local pizza shop, you aren’t going to get it out of Sky Chefs or Gate Gourmet.

    This is on top of regular points-earnings and promotions, so is worth registering for, but there’s something fitting about the least rewarding major hotel program and least rewarding major airline program teaming up.

  1. I don’t know. I got a Leek wrap on Delta once that still haunts my dreams. And in January they served a meatless hamburger. Even the purser warned us not to eat it.

  3. I love the impossible burger!
    It’s one of my favorite things on the menu.

    But there have been some questionable additions to Delta’s menu lately. Especially their breakfast offerings.

  5. Culinary meltdown? Your headline is exaggerated – the person who posted this said he enjoyed the pizza (gave it 7/10). That said, the DL food is generally bad, and DL is stingy given the premium they charge. But can you be accurate in what you post?

    I won’t judge you for liking the impossible burger. My favorite meal in the army was S.O.S. Little bit of hot sauce with some scrambled powdered eggs on top. I could eat it today.

  7. I has been a long time since I ate a Delta meal on an airplane but that pizza doesn’t look that bad and it was tasty.

  8. @H2oman: When I was in, I couldn’t eat anything coming out of a dining facility. Then again, I was the guy who inspected the mess halls for food safety practices. After a good, thorough inspection, I’d rather eat an MRE. They weren’t the worst, though. Officers’ clubs were the worst.

    As for the United burgers that I’ve tried, really, they weren’t too bad. Of course, they proceeded to ruin them with things like putting jalapenos on them. I just wanted two buns, a meat patty, and a slice of cheese. Is that too much to ask? That pizza, though…I’m a Chicagoan. That is an abomination unto any deity you’d like to mention.

  9. Good pizza on an airplane isn’t as difficult as you’d think. Roman-style dough is perfect for this. It’s already designed to sit out for extended periods and (optionally) be reheated quickly in an oven

    I’ve brought Roscioli/Bonci back with me on the flight several times when leaving FCO. Delta FA once noticed me munching on it and took it to the oven to heat it up a bit. Was almost as good as fresh

  10. While the Las Vegas monorail shutting down is unfortunate it’s not really a surprise. The monorail was doomed when it didn’t travel to the two additional places it needed to go: downtown and the airport.

    While I am niot sure what your comment has to do with the subject at hand, the Las Vegas monorail was never intended toi make money–it is oublic transit. The reason it will eventually close, the company that made the passenger cars for that monorail is out of the business. No replacement passenger cars, no monorail.

  12. Oh I liked the monorail in Vegas. While a bit awkward to get to, it’s generally quieter than the buses up and down the strip, and the AC is definitely better on hot days.

    Homemade food will always be 10X better than anything the airline sells.

  15. That pizza still looks light-years better than the horrid Indian food UA was trying to push on pax pre-COVID.
