Deal of the Year 90,000 Iberia Avios are Posting!

Earlier I wrote that Iberia again confirmed they’re honoring the deal of the year. You could earn 9000 Avios per flight booked, even cheap sub-$30 one way flights, and you wouldn’t even need to fly in order for the points to post.

Points unused come December 1 will be removed from your account. Best practice naturally was to book any unwanted travel for after December 1.

All in all this meant buying 90,000 points for less than $300. And for many, doing that for every member of the family.

As several readers have reported the points are now posting to accounts though it can take time for everyone to get theirs, do not panic if your points have not posted as of this writing.

If your (likely new) account is frozen pending verification you’ll need to be patient with that process. If you’re asked for identifying information you’ll need to provide it. And if you don’t hear anything from Iberia about an account you cannot log into you’ll need to contact them (always potentially frustrating).

But this offer was real, and folks are seeing the points post.

  1. What are the symptoms of a frozen account? Is there a message or just wrong password even though it’s not?

  2. All the accounts with which I dealt when doing this have now been credited with the full load of points at the rate of 9k points per eligible booking up to a max ten bookings per account.

  3. Didn’t go overboard, but the 27K Avios for my purchases have posted to my account. Happy camper.

  4. Avios posted. However, now I can’t transfer my British Avios over to Iberia, which I need for topping off. I successfully transferred some in the past and my account is more than 90 days old and has earned points. I tried doing transfer from both Iberia site and BA site but both were unsuccessful.

  5. Deal of the year? Really? If Iberia offered a premium credit card with 90k signup bonus no purchase required,, $300 AF, and no benefits whatsoever, would that be a great card? I don’t think so. So what’s the difference? You’re lucky the points even posted, I expected Iberia to find a way out.

  6. My 90K Avios posted overnight and I also received an email yesterday indicating they would, although nothing posted yet on whatever I will earn from the actual purchases (10@$361US total). Now — how does one go about booking a multi-city itinerary using those Avios? Trying, and repeatedly failing, US-MAD-MEX-US.
