Destination Hotels Start Joining Hyatt August 20

It was only just October that I leaked that Hyatt would acquire Two Roads Hospitality and the Thompson, Destination, Joie de Vivre, Alila and tommie hotel brands.

Already Hyatt has been integrating properties. Most of Thompson Hotels joined World of Hyatt March 28th. Then on May 14 Hyatt integrated 14 of the 18 Joie de Vivre hotels into the World of Hyatt portfolio. And now the first round of Alila hotels have joined the program with the second wave about to be added.

There aren’t actually tommie hotels yet, so that leaves learning the disposition of Destination Hotels – a chain concentrated mostly in the U.S. West and Hawaii. Hyatt tells me,

  • The chain’s Destination Delivers loyalty program ends August 19th.

  • The first Destination Hotels properties will join the program August 20th

  • There will be “updated program terms for these Destination properties” but Hyatt isn’t saying what those are yet. Update: Hyatt explains further, “We will be updating the terms as we’ve done with the other former Two Roads brands that have integrated into the program, by identifying each of the participating properties in the terms.”

So far only 8 out of three dozen Destination Hotels have dates set for joining, and there’s no list of properties which won’t become part of Hyatt. Some clues are property photos featured on the Hyatt website.

Of course some Destination Hotels will become part of other Hyatt brands. Starwood’s Marriott’s Luxury Collection Hotel Talisa, for instance, becomes the Grand Hyatt Vail this month. That’s a ski property worth paying attention to.

More properties are better but so far we’re only talking about 8 hotels which hardly moves the needle for Hyatt’s limited footprint.

  1. If Destination Residences are a part of this, that might move the needle for some. Lots of Hawaii condos would be added

  2. The other 4 Destination hotels in Vail are far better located than the Talisa.
