“First Class, Still Trash”: Passenger Manspreads in Sandals Up on Bulkhead Looks Like He’s Giving Birth [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Oh My Goodness. A first class passenger on a domestic flight was photographed with his legs spread wide, sandals propped up on the bulkhead in front of him. The pose drew comparisons to “giving birth,” and the viral caption mocked him with the line: “Who needs Paris, First Class, International, when you’ve got Florida, First Class, Domestic.” Social media users piled on, calling it proof that “first class, still trash.”

  • How did I miss this one from Chicago O’Hare back in July? It’s making the rounds again now as though it just happened but I didn’t see it earlier.

  • Haves and have nots.

  • If there’s actually anything interesting there – I do not know if there is! – it’ll almost certainly be redacted.

  • This never used to be an issue with Southwest. They were better than this. Now they’re just like everybody else.

  • I don’t see how an airline keeps your money when they don’t deliver the product you’ve paid for (hint: it’s not just ‘transportation from A to B’ especially when they advertise that it isn’t).

  1. People used to get all decked out when I was younger. You also had manner’s. Now greyhound people are getting on. Yes, trash!!!!!

  2. In my 15+ F flights this year, I have seen feet on the bulkhead wall nearly 90% of the time. The only F passengers who don’t put their feet up are Seniors (at least on Alaska). There’s always at least one Row1 passenger who props their feet up for their flight. This isn’t surprising at all.

  3. There is definitely a market for someone to transform older planes into an all business seat configuration for pro sports teams to purchase. The more forward thinking teams already recognize the importance of sleep and the advantages of providing your players with plenty of it.

  4. @Pedro — Why stop at older planes? Le Compagnie is a French airline that operates a few all-Business Class lie-flat (2-2 configuration) a321neos between EWR-ORY/MXP/NCE. If most people could afford it, they’d certainly prefer to fly that anywhere, whether it’s across the Atlantic, or merely transcontinental, heck, from NY-FL, yet, most of the time, it’s 3-3, tight Economy, overcrowded, limited recline. Yuck.

  5. Low rent behavior can be found in the premium cabins and the lounges. Yes, Spirit Airlines behavior also invades those spaces. You can buy class if you don’t know what it is.

  6. @George Nathan Romey — I’ll admit, ‘low rent’ is slightly better than your (and #47’s) usual euphemism ‘low IQ,’ but, alas, still a dog-whistle, nevertheless.

  7. Lamont said that people used to get decked out for Jet travel. Air travel in the 1960s was a luxury, a significant experience where passengers dressed up and enjoyed elaborate meals and service. Today, air travel is far more democratized, with vast numbers of people flying regularly.

  8. First class trash is a result of the growing middle class. Inflation-adjusted, first class domestic tix today are less than coach tix before deregulation. Anyone can afford it, especially when going to a.bachelor party in Florida.

  9. Low Life’s (Dems and Reps) and Mental Midgets are on airplanes and in the White House. I would say ‘what’s your point’? It is the world we have created and only The Rapture is going to change it. Hope and pray you are ready!
