A chief cabin manager for South Korean low-cost airline T’way Air has been sentenced to four weeks in prison in Singapore for secretly filming a female colleague using a hidden camera in a hotel bathroom.
The incident occurred in Singapore, where the 37-year-old flight attendant had placed a mini camera in a bathroom shared by crewmembers. Intending to covertly film his colleague, he entered the bathroom early in the morning and positioned the camera strategically, pointing it toward the toilet area, concealed beneath a towel.
A little while later, when the woman used the bathroom, she discovered the camera beneath the towel. Noticing the device had a blue indicator light signifying it was still recording, she immediately called hotel security.
When confronted by police, the cabin manager lied, saying he found the camera in the hotel and said he had no idea what it was there for or what it contained. Under intense questioning, though, he fessed up.
Authorities found additional explicit videos on his devices, some of which he deleted just before authorities closed in and arrested him. He pled guilty and was sentenced on June 12. The flight attendant victim reports severe emotional distress, anxiety, and trust issues. T’way Air, responding to the incident, suspended and later fired the cabin manager.
One Mile at a Time notes that he “recently learned how South Korean cell phones have mandatory shutter sounds when pictures are snapped, specifically to avoid people taking (sexually creepy) photos of others without them noticing.”
Relatedly, in May 2023, Singapore Airlines made headlines after its own chief cabin attendant was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison for planting a hidden camera in a colleague’s bathroom during a Perth layover—filing details nearly identical to the T’way Air case, but resulting in a significantly harsher sentence following a 25‑year tenure with the airline.
Four weeks? Seems kind of light to me. @1990 wouldn’t approve, but I hope she has a husband or boyfriend that can go beat the crap out of him.
Ah so, he in deep do do.
Not “T’way” to treat people. Creepy.
@Craig Jones — Did you forget? ‘Look for…. the Union Label….’
@Thing 1 — As there’s due process… (like, make sure it’s the right perpetrator). And, since it’s Singapore, there could be a judicially sanctioned ‘caning,’ so you you may get your wish for some ‘corporal punishment,’ after all.
“ female colleague using a hidden camera in a hotel bathroom.”
Why was the woman using a hidden camera in the bathroom anyway?. Seems weird.
“Journalism”
Men, huh? There is no excuse for this, there is enough porn out there for the men to watch if that is what gets them going.
I am glad they are caught, it is good to write about it to discourage others who may be thinking along these lines. And notice it is always men who do this crap.
@1990 One can always hope.
@Thing 1 — “Rebellions are built on hope…” sorry, couldn’t resist. Andor is excellent.
