News and notes from around the interweb:
- Air New Zealand installing wider seats in coach with the biggest gain going to middle seats.
- Court rules that lap infants deserve EU delayed flight compensation
- 858 TSA workers failed drug and alcohol tests between 2010 and 2016
The TSA conducts drug and alcohol tests randomly. Tests are also given if there is reasonable suspicion an employee is under the influence.
The highest failure rates occurred at some of the nation’s busiest airports. Fifty-one TSA workers tested positive for drugs or alcohol at Los Angeles International Airport. John F. Kennedy International Airport had 40 employees test positive. Boston Logan International Airport had 35 failed tests.
Apparently other federal agencies have a higher rate of on the job intoxication than the TSA does.
- TSA briefly announced that it was ok to fly with medical marijuana
- Qantas: Sydney – London flights could happen by 2022
- Register for Club Carlson “Triple Points on all Stays + a 5K bonus for every Sunday and Monday stay up to 100,000 bonus points!”
- KLM’s “intern on a mission” checks out the airline’s animal hotel.
We used AA miles to fly Qantas A380 from Heathrow – Dubai and then Dubai – Sydney late last year. The layover in Dubai gave us the chance to experience Emirates’ First Class lounge, which was special.
Direct Qantas flights from Sydney – London would be a game changer. If future airliners can fly ultra long distances direct, that will (or at least, could) undercut the ME3 carriers in a huge way.
Even though it’s one 1-3cm, I guess it’s good to see an airline increase seat size.
