Hilton has announced its promotion for the first part of 2021. Registration required and you should register now just in case you have a Hilton stay between January 1 and May 2, 2021 because you won’t remember to do so later.

During that timeframe Hilton is offering:

• 2000 bonus points per stay
  
• 5000 more bonus points every 5 nights stayed in the promotion period

I value Hilton points at $0.004 apiece, so 2000 points are worth $8 to me.

This promotion offers nice earning for a cheap, one night stay. However it’s rather un-generous for multi-night stays. In fact it’s less generous than double points for most vacation bookings. Break-even with double points comes at $200 of spend, which you’ll hit on many two-night stays. On an exactly-five night stay, you’re better off with double points when spending over $140 per night.

For the first few months of 2021 Hilton should be running triple points. Hopefully the second half of 2021 is sufficiently strong for travel that better promotions aren’t needed.
