Expedia.com is selling Delta fares between Los Angeles-area airports (excluding LAX) and Singapore for $1600 round trip in business class. (HT: One Mile at a Time)

This fare appears to be available through the entire schedule except for mid-December and also excluding June 9 through July 16. Transpacific flights are on Delta, but intra-Asia segments may be on Korean, ANA, or Asiana. And Domestic segments may be on Alaska.

Oddly most sites are pricing this much higher:

But Expedia does have it for ~ $1600.

This isn’t the only Asia route pricing super-cheap, either!

American has Toronto – Beijing on sale from $1719. (HT: One Mile at a Time)

There’s a 3 day minimum stay and 50 day advance purchase required. Fares are valid from November onward. And it’s available anywhere to book.

For instance, here’s a one-stop version of the itinerary:

This 16,000 mile roundtrip will only net a non-elite AAdvantage member about 8000 miles (5 miles per dollar on base fare and fuel surcharge).

So if you don’t need the miles for AAdvantage elite status credit the trip to Cathay Pacific AsiaMiles or Etihad Guest for full miles plus class of service bonus. Or credit to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan for 150% of flown miles.

American also has Toronto – Shanghai on sale from $1872.

Since the American fares are bookable anywhere, I’m going to assume that’s a great sale. And since Delta’s Asia fare is about the same price, albeit only available on Expedia, I’ll assume it’s a similar sale.

However just in case Delta decides they want to renege on such a deep discount offer to Singapore, a case of seller’s remorse, I’d wait a few days after buying tickets before making additional non-refundable travel plans around the fare. (In theory an airline refusing to honor a sale like this would have to reimburse any out of pocket costs you incurred but there’s not much history with enforcement of that particular DOT statement so I’d still not test it.)
