Delta’s new Airbus A350s follow American’s lead among US airlines in offering a premium economy cabin that’s similar to domestic first class. It’s more space and upgraded amenities, but not the flat bed offering of business class.
Right now there’s an incredible fare of just $614 roundtrip in premium economy between Boston and Beijing, and it’s widely available through end of April. That’s flying premium economy for the same or less than coach.

- Travel permitted Monday through Thursday for each transpacific flight
- Outbound travel must commence by February 19, or between March 5 and April 29
- You’re allowed a stopover in Detroit for $100
- Tickets must be purchased by December 29, but I don’t know that the fare will last that long
- Non-refundable with a $300 change fee

One commenter on Flyertalk notes discussing this fare that you should make sure you’re flying the Airbus A350 for the Detroit – Beijing segment which has real premium economy and not ‘Comfort+’ extra legroom seats (which is what you’ll see on the Airbus A330). Another points out that “there are outbounds in April in [premium economy] and return in [business class] for $1384.”

I flew DL PE long haul once, that was once too many times. But, if your back can tolerate slim line seats for 15 hours or so, it’s a great deal!!

DL offers a decent hard and soft premium economy product on its A350-900, including pre-departure beverages, an amenity kit, slippers, and the same slightly disappointing LSTN noise-cancelling headsets as in Delta one.

The D1 suites are nice, but not a game changer as far as privacy. I like most the color scheme (no more 50 shades of gray) and the fact that there is finally a D1 seat with a little storage.

Also I booked premium economy to PEK and D1 suites return to BOS for $1384. Sweet!
