Inside The Massive MGM Hack: The Cyberattack That Brought Down A Behemoth

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • The story of the MGM hack “more than $30 million ransom. Casinos in disarray. Six days inside the cyberattack that put corporate America on notice.”

  • The 96% complete LAX People Mover delayed to late 2025 they are congratulating themselves on how speedy they are… compared to California high speed rail.

The $2-billion project, which started construction in 2019, is part of a sweeping effort to revamp busy LAX ahead of the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics. The 2.25-mile elevated train will eventually take people to and from airport terminals, parking lots, the rental car facility and the Metro connector, similar to other major airports in the U.S. that swiftly shuttle travelers to and from regional rail systems.

  • Skytrain resuming service at Miami airport’s American Airlines D terminal

The free train service is now running between Stations 2, 3 and 4, a span that runs from gates D24 to D46. American and MIA have been offering golf-cart shuttles and bus rides as alternatives to the disabled train, which opened in 2010 to mitigate the long walks required for the new mile-long Concourse D.

Levine Cava said that shuttles will continue operating between Stations 2 and 1, about a quarter-mile distance, and that full Skytrain service to that stop should resume this summer.

Skytrain’s Sept. 15 shutdown brought more attention to maintenance issues at the county-owned airport, which is undergoing a $700 million replacement project for escalators and elevators that are too old to be reliably repaired.

This is why we can’t have nice things anymore. Ultimately, graft, greed, and power are more important to our leaders than is accomplishing anything. It’s the first step to becoming a “has been” world leader.

  2. I will be happy when the Automated People Mover at Los Angeles International Airport is finished. It will speed up getting to various terminals and lots.
