Instant Star Alliance Silver with bmi (free checked bags on United, US Airways, and Continental) Still Works!

They can’t keep us down for long!

The original offer page I posted over the weekend for instant free silver status with British Midland is now dead.

Matt in the comments to that thread offers up the direct link and promo code 1DC6SM which seems to still be working.

Bmi Silver is also Star Alliance silver which means free baggage.

When FatWallet and Slickdeals pick this up perhaps the good folks there will be good enough to link back to this post 🙂

Update: The ‘voucher code’ no longer seems to be pre-populating with the promo code 1DC6SM off the link above. You can try to sign up and then entering the promo code in the ‘voucher code’ box manually. That may or may not work, they may well have shut this down.

Update 2: Now it’s really dead..

Update 3: The offer page is coming up again. Bizarre. And the signup link is prepopulating the ‘voucher code’ box with promo code 1JA1KD again.

Final Update: Now it’s really dead! Link gives you no status, but does apparently start you with 1000 points.

  1. may be gone also now comes up as OWE on PROMO CODE box and you can not edit it! got a few more friends in while it was up. Txs!

  2. I signed up my fiancée last night and she was silver from the first time she logged in. So I would say the deal is dead now.

  3. I just signed up at 10pm eastern time on the 14th. The original link worked, but it only worked in Chrome. It did not work in IE or Firefox. Received the email right away, and it lists me as Silver. Thanks!

  4. I’m a newbie to FF world.
I read in the previous post, “Star silver members now get just one free checked bag both domestically and internationally.”
In this post, it says, “United has just reduced their free baggage allowance for Star ALliance silvers to only one on domestic flights (everyone gets a free bag internationally).”
Do they offer a free bag for international flight only now? I did get silver status. I signed up on Sunday. I just double checked and my member level is silver. But I was planning to use this benefit on domestic flight.

  5. Well it was a good try (others may have success?). I just did a test and you now get 1000 miles and BLUE not SILVER. Ah well!

  6. deltaGOLDflyer is correct, now allows you to join with the code, but gives you BLUE status, not silver.

snooze and lose…still, thanks for the tip!

  7. I signed up with BMI over the weekend and got Silver and the BMI website still shows me as silver. I just made a reservation with via CO with miles on a UA partner flight. Gave the agent my BMI number. She told me I might want to contact BMI because the “Star Alliance Elite Status Designator” is missing and that’s what tells the airline I get a free bag. So maybe they are cancelling these cards or at least the status. Incidentally, the agent read straight out of the T&C because she wasn’t familiar with BMI and it said two free bags.

  8. I used the original link while it appeared to be working. But it looks like BMI is going to revert at least some of the new members to blue. Here’s a quote from an email I received this morning: “…the link you used to join was an exclusive by invitation only offer and as noted in our terms and conditions was non transferable. Regrettably, we will not be honouring the Silver status, and over the next few days your account will be downgraded to Blue status. Our decision is final, and we won’t be entering into any further correspondence on this.”

  9. Just received the same email as Michael B.

Too bad, it would definitly have made me considering Star Alliance more often.

Maybe AF/KLM will at least honor my status match I did quickly enough (with a screenshot of the interface).

  10. Gary – You may wish to know that even for those who did register via these links…that BMI is NOT honoring the awarding of Silver Status and will be downgrading those who received it back to Blue.

    Email is as follows:

    Dear —-,

We’re pleased to see that you recently joined our Diamond Club frequent flyer programme. However, I’m writing to you because unfortunately the link you used to join was an exclusive by invitation only offer and as noted in our terms and conditions was non transferable.

Regrettably, we will not be honouring the Silver status, and over the next few days your account will be downgraded to Blue status. Our decision is final, and we won’t be entering into any further correspondence on this. On a positive note though, our frequent flyer programme is one of the most generous programmes around, and you only need to earn 16,000 membership status miles to earn a Silver membership. When you fly with us, or any of the Star Alliance airlines, you’ll reach Silver status in no time at all. You’ll also have access to all our offers and promotions, as well as being the first to hear about our great sale fares. We hope you’ll still enjoy the benefits of your Diamond Club membership.

    Regards
