LAX Terminal 4 American Airlines Admirals Club and Flagship Lounge Opening Soon

The LAX Admirals Club in terminal 4 has been closed for renovations the past four months. There’s a new club in terminal 5 and they’ve been scheduling priority flights out of there so that their most premium customers are close to a lounge.

The good news is that the full complex of lounges in terminal four is close to opening.

JT Genter shared on Twitter that according to agents there the American Airlines terminal 4 Admirals Club may re-open November 21:

American tells me “we’re targeting for the whole complex which includes Admirals Club, Flagship Lounge and Flagship First Dining to open mid to late December.”

The Admirals Club will be the first piece to open and “that’s on target to open around Thanksgiving.” It sounds like they don’t want to overpromise and miss the date, so would prefer that the November 21 date not be out there, but if things go according to plan there’s a good shot that the Admirals Club will be open then.

I really like American’s renovated Admirals Clubs, especially the main terminal 8 club at New York JFK. (The LAX Terminal 5 club, on the other hand, is still too reminiscent of its past as a Delta SkyClub in my opinion.)

I’m excited for the Flagship Lounge, which will be available to business and international (and transcon premium) first class customers as well as American’s Platinums and above flying internationally and mid-tier elites of oneworld partners. The New York JFK Flagship Lounge is excellent and so is the one at O’Hare.

The Miami Flagship Lounge should open before LAX does. And both Miami and LAX will offer Flagship Dining for first class passengers — a seated restaurant-style meal experience that’s a home run in the New York lounge.

Why are American EXPs, Oneworld Emeralds, excluded from Flagship Dining when Emeralds and EXPs have access to very similar dining options on other Oneworld carriers (and International First Class dining at DFW’s D Admirals Club) even when flying coach internationally? This double standard could lead Qantas and Cathay Pacific to kick EXPs out of their very nice dining rooms since their top elites won’t have access to Flagship Dining. Am I missing something?

  4. Gary, does it have to be first on a 3 class plane flying MIA-Lax if one wants flagship dining? As of now, no premium trans cons lax-Mia have 3 classes, and the 77w May never come back.

  6. Face palm, I fly through LAX on 11/20. Will miss it by one day. I have an early December flight booked so if it does fully open I’ll check it out then. I wish they had closed the lounge from the beginning of construction but they didn’t have the T5 lounge until Delta left to T2
