Road warriors and frequent travelers carry noise cancelling headphones. The noise of the aircraft makes it tough to hear sound from the movies on your device, or music, at any reasonable volume without a good pair of headphones. And they help to tune out the world.
The gold standard headphones are expensive. I replaced my Denon headphones this year with Bose QC25s and I paid nearly $300 for them.
Amazon though now has them for the lowest price I’ve seen, $269 with free Prime shipping.
- Bose QuietComfort 25 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones – Apple devices
- Bose QuietComfort 25 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones for Samsung and Android Devices
There are 3 colors to choose from. I have the Black, there’s also “triple black” and white. They’re comfortable for wearing on hours-long flights.
The only difference between the “Apple devices” and “Samsung/Android devices” is that you can control music and calls from your smartphone. I generally use the headphones with my laptop, except during takeoff and landing, which I guess makes me a luddite.
Some folks prefer the much smaller (takes up less room in the carry on) in-earn QC20s rather than the ‘over the ear’ QC25s but those aren’t discounted.

Costco has had Bose QC-15 for about $225-$239 for a while, as well, and I think Sam’s Club was doing the same, used an AMEX offer to get an add’l discount on mine
Even cheaper if you buy it on Amazon.ca – 329CAD = 240USD.
Don’t forget to buy the headphones with your Chase Freedom card, now offering 10 UR points per dollar on Amazon purchases.
$300 for earbuds. WOW!
$249 at newegg with Amex offer.
They’re $339.95 as my local Costco
The earbuds can be had re-furbished for $220 at Bose outlet stores. You even get the original Bose warranty.
Earbuds are much easier to carry around
The Bose are great if you are ONLY looking for noise cancelling but if you are interested in hearing music and I mean quality music then the Polk Audio Ultra Focus 8000’s. Incredible sound and excellent noise cancelling as well as what I like to call the “ease-drop” switch. With the touch of a switch the sound around you is amplified so you can hear the flight attendant or ease-drop.
What’s the difference between black and Triple black ?
They are great at noise cancelling, less great on sound quality. I tried them on a 4 flight vacation and returned them afterward. They moved the microphone that enables the noise cancelling on the earphones so when you lean back against a airlines headrest it picks up the engine vibration through the seat, causing a rumble as loud as takeoff during flight..loud enough to override music or video..and for those that like to just turn on NC and take a nap, forget it…I expected more from Bose.
