Yesterday I wrote about a twist on the sub-$600 Australia roundtrips that could bring the price down to $385. These were from several US cities, predominantly Delta hub cities.
If you didn’t jump on these and wish you had, it’s not too late, because Los Angeles roundtrips have joined the party! Dan’s Deals points out that United is now selling Los Angeles – Australia roundtrip itineraries for $566.

These are again 10 day minimum stay (meaning you can return 10 days or more from the day you depart the US) and the fares appear to be available July through November.
Given the restrictions on the fare, and that they began running it exclusively out of Delta hub cities, it doesn’t look like a mistake — just the best, most long-running amazing Australia sale I’ve ever seen… and I’ve watched Australia pricing since I was a kid, when close family moved there.
Here’s a calendar of availability for Los Angeles – Sydney.
Days where $566 roundtrips are available will net you United’s non-stops.
That’s just $208 plus tax each way. Downright amazing.
And these fares aren’t available just to Sydney. Here’s a calendar of availability for Los Angeles – Melbourne.
United flies Los Angeles – Melbourne non-stop. But what to go somewhere else in Australia instead, like the Great Barrier Reef? Los Angeles – Cairns roundtrips are available for $634.
What’s also impressive for our friends Down Under is that Sydney – Los Angeles is broadly on sale as well.
These fares are non-refundable, and for all intents and purposes they aren’t upgradable (except for the American Airlines Sydney – Los Angeles fares via Executive Platinum systemwides). Technically you can use miles to upgrade on United, but even if the upgrade space becomes available United’s cash co-pay (cash plus miles) will be cost-prohibitive.
I’ve already purchased (with awards) my ticket to Australia for September, but appreciate the heads up!
Bought a LAX-DPS (Bali) via SYD return on UA for $630 yesterday. Amazing fares!!! Departing LAX June 5 an returning July 20.
Can united write a letter to my boss asking I be excused for a few days?
Update – Last night (8 PM PST) I found UA tkts RT LAX-HBA (Hobart, Tasnmania, Australia) for $661. Since we bought 3 kids tickets and 2 adult tickets the average was actually $524/ticket. AMAZING PRICES! I tried leaving from Seattle and returning to LAX in August and staying longer than 10 days, but never found the really cheap $350 tickets. However, $661 is an incredible price and thanks to this blog, our kids finally get to meet their Grandmother in Australia!! Thank you!!!!
I couldn’t find those deals. I want to fly from Seattle to Brisbane, but they’re all very expensive. I’m not deal savvy at all. help.
I couldn’t click on any dates, LAX to SYD.
I just purchased a ticket from LAX-CNS RT for $635 through AA.com on their metal and codeshare with Qantas for dates near Thanksgiving. There’s still availability for those who prefer to fly AA/Qantas and want to go around Thanksgiving.
Is this still available. My son is in the US Marines attached. To the Royal Australian Air Force and I’d love to see the grandkids 3~4
