New Lounge for Amex Platinum Cardmembers and Made Up Boeing Sales Figures?

  • Just take the trip one of the best things I’ve read this month.

  • Reno Tahoe airport is getting its first lounge, an Escape lounge with hot and hold food and complimentary bar (and premium food and beverage options for sale). If you have a Platinum Card® from American Express you can access the lounge free of charge (with a same day boarding pass) and are eligible to bring in two guests complimentary as well. Normal pay-in price is $45 per visit (or $40 if pre-booked online).

    The 1700 square foot lounge will open after a $1 million investment. Other US Escape lounges, complimentary for Platinum card holders, are available in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Oakland and Hartford, Connecticut.

  • On Saturday I wrote about a $50 per month deal that lets you eat dinner and golf when traveling at least 100 miles from home. Apparently residents of 7 states get it for just $25.

  • Be wary of sales numbers being reported by aircraft manufacturers this week, much of it is spin — conversion of orders for other aircraft models, memorandums of understanding for future purchases that are flimsy at best. One estimate is that Boeing’s announcement of 240 orders for the 737 MAX 10 may represent as few as 66 net new orders.

  • The new best business class in the world — Qatar’s Qsuite — debuts this month Doha – London Heathrow. It was expected that Paris, New York, and Tokyo would be the next routes it would serve. And now Qatar has confirmed that Paris and New York are next, as Qatar retrofits an aircraft a month in addition to putting this seat into new deliveries.

  • AirAsia’s CEO tweets that they’re not going to fly to Europe or the mainland US after all. (HT: Brian Sumers in Skift)
