A roundup of the most important stories of the day. I keep you up to date on the most interesting writings I find on other sites – the latest news and tips.
Since American is Taking Out Seat Back Video, Prepare With an Amazon Tablet for $20
American Airlines is getting rid of seat back video from its domestic fleet. As part of their “Project Oasis” retrofit even planes that have seat back screens are going to have those removed.
While American claims 90% of customers bring their own devices, so screens are unnecessary, that number can’t possibly be right unless “devices” include “flip phones.” Older travelers and children frequently don’t have their own devices. A family of five probably doesn’t own five tablets.
Marriott Backs Down on Lifetime Elite Status for Starwood Members (and Clarifies Amex Platinum Status)
Marriott’s legacy program offered lifetime 75 night elite status, and those who already achieved that status in the Marriott program, or who achieve it through Marriott-only activity by the end of the year, get to keep it. Starwood elites weren’t going to be given that opportunity.
Kismet: American Passenger Flying to Clinic Has Inflight Emergency, Life Saved By Clinic’s Doctor
Ashley Spencer was flying American Airlines from Philadelphia to Cleveland over the weekend where she would receive treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. But she went into anaphylactic shock on the flight.
Spencer reports she stopped breathing, she “still had a pulse. That’s when the stewardess said, ‘Is there any medical professionals on the aircraft? It’s an emergency.'”
Details on United’s Meal Cutbacks, First Class Goes Hungry
Over the weekend I wrote that United had confirmed cutbacks to meals in domestic first class on flights under four hours outside of departures between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Unfortunately it’s not whether or not a flight gets a full meal, other service elements in domestic first class are being pared back as well.
Passengers Dropped to the Ground Then Evacuated Fume-Filled Delta Flight
A dog was the first to notice, barking that something was wrong on Delta Flight 1854 from Detroit to Denver. Fumes came through the vents on the MD90.
Ultimately passengers dropped to the ground so they could breath and Delta evacuated the flight on the ground in Denver on Tuesday night. One person was taken to the hospital.

You’ll pay a bit more over the course of the 2 nights for your stay, and get a free night that should be worth several hundred dollars. It doesn’t make sense to go out and book 2 Kimpton nights you don’t need for this promo, but it does make sense to book Kimpton over another chain if you can take advantage of the promo.
Wide Open Lufthansa First Class Awards, Book Now
Earlier today I wrote about Lufthansa first class awards being available Chicago – Frankfurt. That’s rare because Lufthansa usually only allows partner frequent flyer programs to book Lufthansa first class within two weeks of travel.
And now in fact we’re seeing it on myriad routes between the US and Germany. I don’t know if this will last, I’d book right away if you are interested and you can.
3 Black Women Detained By Police for Checking Out of Airbnb With Luggage
We see people checking out of a hotel and that’s normal. We need to get more used to people checking out of homes in our neighborhoods. Because that means getting used to more types of people, more people who ‘look different’, and that happens by making it more commonplace.
It’s a reminder that anti-Airbnb ordinances are often cover for deplorable motives. And hotels spending money on front groups to lobby against Airbnb should be ashamed of themselves too.
