I wasn’t sure I’d feel at home at a ‘female empowerment hotel’ – but Hotel Zena (1) gave me a suite as a status upgrade, and (2) has a portrait of Ruth Bader Ginsburg that’s just awesome.
GHA Discovery has grown to 50 brands, and their new multi-brand promo can be surprisingly lucrative. Register then complete 2–10 brand-direct stays of at least two nights between December 1, 2025 and May 31, 2026 to earn D$50–D$100 per stay on top of your usual rewards—OTAs and bank portals don’t count.
You can even get status if you have a premium credit card or airline status or cruise status but don’t have any hotel status.
I was pretty curious when I saw the announcement that GHA Discovery has brought on a restaurant group as part of the program: The Wolseley Hospitality Group, a “signature collection of European dining concepts across London.”
I figured if I showed up in Venice during the week, rather than a weekend; after true peak of peak dates (when the city stopped imposing its transient tourist tax); and stayed in a more residential area, away from the tourist sites (Piazza San Marco and St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, Rialto Bridge) I wouldn’t mind so much.
The biggest frustration with the stay wasn’t the property’s fault at all. One morning there was banging on my hotel room door at 4:30 a.m. A naked woman was demanding into my room!
I got up and went to the door and saw her through the peep hole. And I figured there were only 2 possibilities.
A week ago I stayed at the Viceroy DC. The Viceroy brand participates in GHA Discovery. The hotel is part of the American Express Hotel Collection (and I had a two night stay, so eligible for benefits). And they had an amazing rate – I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything as low as $163.35++ before.
The ‘number of members’ is really just ‘records in the database.’ The more rooms you have, the more people are booking them, the more sign up for a program usually just to avoid paying extra. A large marketing file is valuable! But it says little about the value of the program. Far more interesting is which programs outperform the size of the chain.
GHA Discovery is selling their rewards currency at a discount through August 31. The size of your discount depends on whether and what status you have in the program.
