Marriott’s new CEO admits that Bonvoy isn’t as generous as Starwood Preferred Guest was. He dismisses guest desires for hotel services as customers having a “short memory.” And he explains lack of service and generous benefits as a need to hold down hotel owner costs.

Revealing: Marriott CEO Says Workers Make Too Much Money, Don’t Trust Us
Marriott CEO Anthony Capuano makes two points about low wage workers in a recent interview. Amazon pays entry level workers too much, and that’s making it hard for hotels to hire cheap ‘in some markets’. And after mass layoffs in 2020, workers don’t trust hotels as a place to build a long-term career.
3 Stackable Marriott Homesharing Offers
Taken together a booking through the Marriott platform could make sense. Currently inventory is sufficiently scattered that I think it’s important to check multiple platforms when planning a trip.
Current Marriott American Express Cardmembers: Earn 40,000 Bonus Points This Summer
Existing American Express Marriott co-brand cardmembers who enroll between July 14 and September 15, 2021, will be able to earn 6x Marriott Bonvoy points (up to 4 additional points) for each dollar of eligible purchases through September 30, 2021 in four categories.
The Denver Airport Marriott Gateway’s Airport Shuttle Is A Horrid-Smelling Party Bus
I can be down with most any party, but this party bus just doesn’t seem “on brand” for an airport Marriott.
Mules Stay Free On $79 Discounted Marriott Courtyard Rate
The Marriott Courtyard in Bentonville, Arkansas is currently offering a ‘mules stay free’ rate of $79 per night, and it’s being promoted by the mayor of nearby Pea Ridge.
When have you ever been able to bring a mule to a hotel before? A giraffe, sure, but not a mule.
Hotel Complains About Marriott Elite Members Trying To ‘Scam’ Free Breakfast
At Marriott’s Hotel Distil, an Autograph Collection property located in Louisville, Platinum elite members and above get a voucher for a ‘continental breakfast’ or $15 off anything on the breakfast menu. Only they don’t offer a “continental breakfast” on the menu. And nothing on the menu was $15 with coffee, fruit or juice, tip and tax.
Marriott Guts Points Advance Feature In Totally Reasonable Change
For years members have been able to take advantage of a very generous Marriott policy that allows locking in awards in unlimited quantity just in case you want them later. They’ve tamped down on this a little bit over time, but not a lot. And since booking awards at hotels where there’s limited space hurts other members by keeping them from redeeming awards, I don’t have a real problem with their clamping down further.
Marriott Now Bans Credit Card Surcharges In The U.S. And Canada
The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort was hitting customers with a 2% fee to pay by credit card. Marriott has rich credit card deals with Chase and American Express, but Bonvoy members were even being penalized at this hotel for paying with a Marriott credit card.
It took a couple of months after being exposed, but this hotel no longer imposes a credit card fee – and no Marriott hotel in the U.S. or Canada is supposed to, either thanks to a new brand standard.
Another Defect In That United Flight Attendant Lawsuit Against Marriott
The fired United Airlines flight attendant who is suing Marriott under a variety of theories stemming from a positive Covid-19 test, quarantine at the Courtyard Wilmington Downtown, and the hotel sharing his behavior with the airline including that he was allegedly maskless in the lobby among other guests despite his Covid-19 diagnosis is getting quite a bit of coverage.
Much of the detail in the suit is a total distraction. I detailed several problems with it yesterday. A law professor shares another.
