Watch a Tornado Touch Down and Blow Aircraft and Buses at Antalya Airport

A tornado struck Antalya airport in Turkey today and it was captured on film heading across the airport “travelling between international Terminal 1 and the threshold of runway 18C.”

The storm manages to move “a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8, an Onur Air Airbus, and another 737 in the colours of tour operator Detur.” Airport buses and other vehicles were overturned.

Air Traffic Controllers Now Not Showing Up to Work During Shutdown

The government shutdown continues to affect airport security wait times. Sick out calls have been hovering over 7% for the past week, peaking at 10% this past Sunday.

Air traffic control centers faced staffing shortages today that led to delays across the Northeast including the major New York airports of Newark and LaGuardia as well as Philadelphia. There were delays in and out of Tampa as well.

Lawsuit: Man Hurt His Back During United Airlines Flight, Now Has Plane Crash Nightmares

If you could sue an airline just because you hurt your back inflight I think we’d have seen a whole lot more lawsuits since the introduction of ‘slimline’ seats that have less padding, and so take up less space, and allow airlines to squeeze seats in closer together.

One man though says he hurt his back when his United flight diverted to Goose Bay, Canada in October and he’s been having “horrible plane crash nightmares” ever since.

Venezuela is Plunging into Chaos: Which Airlines Still Fly?

As the country has fallen apart, with mass shortages, rampant crime, and inflation over 5000%, American Airlines had found their Venezuela routes extremely profitable — because there was so little air service left.

Thanks to price controls on domestic flights, passengers waited at airports for days hoping to get on a flight. The National Guard pulls suitcases off of flights to loot them. Airlines complain they’re getting contaminated fuel.

With flight crews getting robbed by bandits airlines fly crews out of the country to overnight, and try to refuel elsewhere as well.

Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson’s Bizarre Interview: We Stored Your Unencrypted Passport #s to Help You

Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson comes off as out of touch with his customers’ concerns when he claims frustrations with their loyalty program are just ‘noise around the edges’ but that hardly seems to be a one-off example.

He gave a rather bizarre interview to CNBC at the Davos World Economic Forum where he floated the idea of recession being a good thing ‘to get it over with’ and suggested that Marriott was storing the customer passport numbers that were hacked to help customers.

California Will Make Illegal Unemployment Payments to TSA Screeners as Wait Times Worsen

TSA is telling individual airports not to reveal the percentage of screeners calling in sick. Nationally though they’re releasing airport wait time statistics and those are bad – very bad.

The Governor of California is encouraging TSA workers to claim unemployment benefits in his state despite guidance from the US Department of Labor saying it’s not legal to offer such payments.
