Earlier this month American Airlines cracked down on their reservations agents making changes to passenger itineraries for free when the schedule change was less than 15 minutes. That actually seems fair but as a passenger it’s still disappointing.
American Airlines is making it cheaper in some cases for passengers to change their flight on the same day of travel, for instance to fly home earlier after meetings are over or move to a later flight if things come up.
They used to charge $75 to do this, waiving the fee for their top Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum status members. Now they’ve introduced dynamic pricing, offering same day changes starting at $50.
American Airlines offers same day changes for $75, waived for Platinum Pro (75,000 mile) elite members and higher. The rules for these changes are more restrictive than United’s or Delta’s though.
Fortunately American appears to be experimenting with a more liberal approach to same day confirmed changes, specifically making more inventory available on certain flights to test if that’s something they’re willing to move forward with.
